James Sasko Obituary

Sasko, James A.
BALLSTON LAKE - James A. Sasko, age 84, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at home with his loving family by his side. James was born on March 20, 1940, in Troy, N.Y., and was the son of the late Anthony and Alice (Machnick) Sasko.
James attended Heatly High School in Green Island and shortly after, enlisted into the U.S. Air Force, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1962. James worked various positions until joining GF Wertime Building Supply in Cohoes, N.Y., where he worked as the store manager until his retirement. James was never satisfied with sitting still, so he went back to work part time during his "retirement" years with his son's family business, Teakwood Builders.
Jimmy, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, greatly enjoyed surrounding himself with those he loved - he was a wonderful father, brother, grandfather, and friend. Jimmy loved fishing, camping, walking any beach from Maine to Florida, blues music, a lively polka tune, crafting anything out of scrap wood, and vegetable gardening - he was known for his tomatoes. He also had a passion for cars, especially Cadillac's, an interest that started in high school where he earned himself the nickname "Duals" for the dual exhaust vehicles he drove. Jimmy was a member of the Green Island Senior Center and his local American Legion.
James is survived by his devoted partner Antoinette "Toni" Jones, his loving children Jaimie Mazzone, James A. (Lisa) Sasko, Jr., and Joel (Bridget) Sasko; his adored grandchildren, Michael and Nicole Mazzone, Porter, Evelyn, and Amelia Sasko, and Messina and Cecilia Sasko; and his dear sister, Sandy (Al) Andrejcak.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his older brother, Robert (the late Lorraine) Sasko.
Services for James will be held privately for the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Community Hospice of Saratoga County, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866.
With confidence, the family has placed their trust in the loving care of the Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home, 21 Midline Road, Ballston Lake N.Y., and they encourage you to view and leave messages on James' Book of Memories at www.TownleyWheelerFH.com

Uncle Jimmy was always the coolest uncle, whether building us a plywood sled for an unexpected snow storm, remembering every birthday with a funny card with coins taped inside or lending us his prized Cadillac for our special day. He always brought fun, light, and a positive energy to the day. "Bruce" and I will miss you Uncle Jim. Thinking of you all Jamie, Jimmy, Joel, Sandy and your families at such a sad time.

Jim came to our home and into our family in 2002 after a Teakwood remodeling just to wrap up a short punch list. And then he stayed! Not literally of course, but Jim was in and out of our home regularly for a year or so doing things we couldn´t. Always with a smile, looking forward to our daughters coming home after school (or maybe he was planning evasive action given this, "I loved Mr. Sasko. I used to talk to that poor man for hours while he happily indulged me, until you caught on and made me leave him alone!"), always patient with our under-foot dogs (they just thought he needed help, or supervision, or both), and always with a story. A couple of fun memories . . . the time he came back from FL with a bag of starfish and shells for our kids (we still have them). The time I asked him to fix the long crack that had developed in our new basement ceiling and, when I marveled at how invisible the fix was, he responded (gently), "Um, Kate, it was a cobweb." We had such a laugh! And then our projects were done. But we have exchanged Christmas cards for over 20 years. What fun it was having him around! We will miss knowing he´s in this world.

I still see Jimmy as a high school student and in his 20´s. Many times my husband and I would see him when we were out on a date. He was always on the dance floor! We never saw him without a smile or friendly greeting. It´s been many years since I´ve seen him but the memories linger. I´m sure his brother Bob and my sister Lorraine are waiting for him with open arms. Hugs and prayers to the family

Jim, I have fond memories of your Dad painting my former home on Equinox Drive in Lake George. We had nice chats and I appreciated his careful work. One day he pointed out a mother deer who brought her twins to our backyard. We both enjoyed their beauty and peacefulness.
It is hard to say Goodbye. I feel for your loss.
