Louis Mallett Obituary

Waterford - Louis "Big Lou" C. Mallett Sr., 63, of Waterford, entered eternal life on Dec. 5, 2013.

He was born May 7, 1950, in New London, the son of the late Clarence and Tina (Annibalini) Mallett. He was a graduate of New London High School, class of 1969. He was a member of the New London High School undefeated 1968 State Championship football team, "one of the greatest teams in the school's history".

He was employed at Electric Boat as a welder, retiring after 30 years. Big Lou was a very caring and giving individual who organized many charitable events, such as golf tournaments and dinners for those who were less fortunate. Big Lou was a coach in the former New London National Little League where his son played while growing up. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed boating and saltwater fishing. He played in many softball leagues in New London in the 70s and 80s, including Electric Boat's softball league.

Even though he was known as "Big Lou", he was a gentle soul who loved animals including his cats and his dog, Emmitt.

He is survived by his son, Louis Jr. and his wife, Jaime, of Groton; his sister, Debbie Popa and her husband, Michael, of Uncasville; his nephew, Michael Popa Jr.; niece, Christy Lovett of Oklahoma; his companion, Marilyn Teixeira of Waterford; and his former wife, Maureen Jordan of New London.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 9, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave. New London. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home followed by interment in St. Mary Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 169 Old Colchester Road, Quaker Hill, CT 06375 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38173-9966.

Lou,
Just heard of the passing of your dad. You are in our thoughts during this difficult time. Although I didn't know your dad, if he was anything like you, he must have been all right. May his memory be eternal.

My deepest sympathies to the Mallet family. I've known Lou since our days at the old Waller School thru our graduation at NLHS. I lived on Shaw St. Lou lived on Howard St....his love for baseball is the thing I remembered most about him. He had a big heart to go along with his size....a true friend whose friendship was always genuine. I haven't seen you Lou in over 30 years but I do know if I had, it would have been like seeing you yesterday. Rest in peace Lou.

My sincerest condolences go to Lou's family. Lou and I played Little League together and were friend through High School. I recently reconnected with him through Facebook but regret all the years we'd missed as I left New London in 1974. He was a good friend and a good man.
