East Lyme - Louis C. San Juan, 83, of East Lyme, entered eternal life Oct. 27, 2024, at home in the company of his loving family. He was born Feb. 12, 1941, in New London, the son of the late Joseph and Lydia (Cortucci) San Juan.

He attended local schools, graduating from New London High School. He married the former Margaret Cox; Mrs. San Juan passed in 2022. Louis started working at Electric Boat at the age of 18, working for 35 years, and retiring as a planner.

He was an active member of the Italian Dramatic Club, helping with the popular monthly dinners. He was an avid tennis player and member at the Old Saybrook Tennis Club. He loved hiking in Niantic State Forest, and was a woodcutter, heating his home with the wood he harvested. Louis and late wife Margaret enjoyed traveling, going to Europe many times. He truly lived his retirement to the fullest. He loved being involved with his grandchildren whom he adored, along with nieces and nephews.

He is survived by a daughter, Katherine San Juan-Dennis of New London; a son, Robert, and wife Amanda San Juan of Massachusetts; two siblings, Robert San Juan and Donna Tattar, both of Florida; a son-in-law, Marmaduke Loke; his grandchildren: Kylie and John Dennis, Jarret Loke, Maggie San Juan, Colin, Kyle and Ava Reardon; nieces, Barbara San Juan-Karlson, Deana San Juan-Nott, both of Waterford, and Stacy Tattar of Mystic; nephews, Joseph San Juan of Waterford, and Matthew Tattar of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his daughter Debralee Loke; and a brother, Joseph San Juan.

Per Louis's request, funeral services are private. The Impellitteri-Malia funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London has been entrusted with his care.

I am so sorry for the loss of Lou. He loved my dog Klarck and would come to take him out for walks if my work day was longer than normal. Klarck looked forward to Lou's visits. I will miss you, Lou.

Playing tennis with Lou was always a pleasure, he was competitive, without losing sight of being a gentleman. He could cover court better than most, and never complained if it wasn't going his way. Personally, he made tennis even more fun, being on the court with him on either side of the net, was a wonderful experience.
His positive attitude was a lesson in how we should act. He was always modest about playing well, never bragging about his prowess, just enjoying the moment. Making him easy to respect, and I am a better person because I knew him.

We are all saddened by the loss of your wonderful Father, Lou. We have been Lou & Peggy´s neighbors for 34 years and we will miss them! They both always made us feel like we were part of the family. Jan and I have known Peggy and Lou for well over 30 years going back when you were in school in East Lyme. Your parents were two terrific people who were both co-workers and friends over the years. I met Lou playing tennis at the racquet club, and we became fast friends. One day he called me and asked if I could sub for him in the tennis group on Saturday, as he was "tied up." I said sure, and only found out days later that he was tied up with his brother´s funeral service! Just like Lou not to burden others with his problems. It was a privilege to know him, and he will be missed!
