Mae Nelson Obituary

Mystic - Mae Louise Nelson, 90, of Mystic, passed away on Saturday evening, July 19, 2014, at her residence. Mae was the beloved wife of the late Evert Hjalmer Nelson, who predeceased her on March 22, 2002.

She was born in Old Saybrook, on Aug. 8, 1923, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Urban) Endrich. Mae was raised in Old Saybrook and was a graduate of Old Saybrook High School, where she trained to be a secretary. Following her marriage to Evert, they became proud parents to two adopted children, Linda and David. Becoming a mother and lovingly caring for her children was Mae's life joy. In 1971, they moved to Mystic where as a family they owned and operated Seaport KOA Campground. They retired in 1987, enjoying many winters in Florida.

Mae found special pleasure in her indefatigable daily walking and biking through which she forged relationships with all her neighbors, as well as gardening. She loved roses and zinnias, and said she felt closer to God in her raspberry patch than anywhere else. She will be remembered as a loving, kind, and smiling wife, mother, sister, and neighbor.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Nelson and her partner, Judith Jerome, of Stonington, Maine; her son, David B. Nelson of Mystic; her sister, Evelyn Sage and her husband, Walter, of York, Maine; her niece, Cindy Raymond and her husband, Kevin; her nephew, Walter Sage Jr. and his wife, Janet; and her four special grandnieces and nephews, Meagan, Matthew, Kristin, and Michelle.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Richard Endrich and his wife, Johanna "Jody".

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, at St. Joseph's Church, 48 Middlesex Ave., Chester. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Route 145, Westbrook.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mae's name may be made to Opera House Arts, PO Box 56, Stonington, ME 046681.
