East Lyme - Margaret (Larkin) Jusyk, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2012, with her family by her side, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
She was a Niantic resident for the last 24 years. Previously she lived in Southport throughout her married life. She was born in Bridgeport. Peg served her country as a U.S. Navy WAVE aerographer and was stationed primarily in Florida. She was an instructor in weather science at the Housatonic Power Squadron and always spoke fondly of her time in the Navy.
After graduating from the University of Bridgeport she received a master's degree and sixth year certificate from Fairfield University. She then worked for the Fairfield County school system in Monroe and Norwalk as a school psychologist. After retirement, she continued to do periodic testing in the Clinton Schools for a research project with Yale School of Medicine Pediatrics. Never idle, Peg acquired a real estate license and enjoyed working at Black Point Real Estate until very recently. She was a member of the Connecticut Education Association, Women in Military Service and The Connecticut Association of School Psychologists.
She was a talented pastelist and was an elected artist member of the Mystic Art Center, East Lyme Art League and the Connecticut Pastel Society. Her work was entered in many local art shows. Peg kept very busy with her volunteer work, most recently at the Florence Griswold Art Museum in Old Lyme and at the East Lyme Information Center. She was an active member of St. Agnes Church in Niantic most recently serving as a counter and previously in Mary's Ministry, St. Vincent De Paul Society and the Voice of the Faithful. She was also a communicant in past years and visited the home bound and those in local nursing facilities. In addition, Peg was active at Our Savior Church during her warm winters in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
She was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching the Red Sox (when they are winning), and the UConn Husky Women's basketball team as well as Duke basketball and the Orlando Magic. Golf was the game she participated in for many years, sharing her late husband Stan's passion. They were former members of Black Hall Golf Club in Old Lyme and Rock Ledge Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla. Later in life, Peg took up the game of Mahjong and became quite proficient at it!
Survivors include her daughter, Jacy and son-in-law, Jim Worth, of Lebanon; her grandson, Dr. Patrick Worth of Portland, Ore.; and granddaughter, Margaret Worth of Manhattan, N.Y. Peg was so very proud of her family. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Stanton of Southbury; and sisters-in-law, Ellie and Loretta Jusczyk of Rhode Island. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive; as well as lifelong friends, the DeRose family. In addition, she leaves behind many good friends whom she enjoyed spending time with in lively conversation over a glass of wine, preferably somewhere overlooking the beach.
Peg was predeceased by her parents, Anna and John Larkin; her sister, Adeline Gould; brother, Martin Larkin; and her husband of fifty two years, Stanley J. Jusyk.
Her family extends their sincere thanks to Dr.'s Thompson, Gaudio, Madsen and Ouellette and the wonderful nurses and staff on 5.4 and the emergency department at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. They are equally thankful to the staff of the East Pavilion 10th floor, at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Dr. Lacy, Maggie and Carol at Smilow Cancer Hospital.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. June 25, at St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave., Niantic.
