Marjorie Rousseau Obituary

Montville - Marjorie R. Rousseau, 84, of Uncasville, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Marjorie was born Sept. 6, 1929, the daughter of Ethel and William (Buster) Rice. She graduated from Willimantic Teachers College with a bachelor of science degree in 1951 and soon after married Gerard H. Rousseau, who predeceased her in 2006.

Surviving family members include her sister, Dorothy Gorra of Northampton, Mass.; children, Peter Rousseau and wife, Helen, of Uncasville, Charles Rousseau and wife, Barbara, of Mystic, Alex Rousseau and wife, Susan, of Ledyard, and Amy Armstrong and her husband, Jim, of Uncasville. Also surviving Marjorie are her eight grandchildren, Holly Gorman of Preston, Coral Rousseau of Uncasville, Isabelle and Connor Rousseau of Mystic, Zachary and Catherine Rousseau of Ledyard, Jessica and James Armstrong of Uncasville; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew of Preston, and Persephone, Jamie, Teagan, and Alarra-Mae of Uncasville.

Marjorie spent her career teaching in the Montville schools, mostly at the kindergarten level. She was a life member of Montville Mohegan Lions, past member of Eastern Star, and as a member of Montville Union Baptist Church, she served as a trustee. She was also an instrumental part of the founding of the Montville Union Baptist Church Food Bank. Marge was never one to bring attention to her own accomplishments, but simply wished to serve others and God.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, Route 32, Uncasville. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Montville Union Baptist Church, Route 163, Uncasville.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montville Union Baptist Church Food Bank would be appreciated.

I have known "Marge in Charge" my whole life, through our church, and it's hard to imagine this world without her. I have many fond memories of her, but my favorite is: every year (until recently) she would teach the kids about the advent wreath, let them take turns lighting the candles, and sing her own song about it. "Mary had a baby, a lord...". She was a beautiful person who had a heart for children, and for the less fortunate. And I, for one, will miss her.

My sincere condolences on the passing of Marge. I first met her and Ethel and Buster when my brother-in-law, Rev Phil Goff was Pastor at the UBC. Marge and I sang in the choir together. Many, many happy memories of her not only as a Church member but also as a friend and all the times spent "pool side" at her Mom and Dad's. She will be missed by many.

Sincerely, Fran (Saunders) Andersen

May He reveal Himself to many because of the life this precious woman lived for her king who she has longed to be with. Mrs. Rousseau ("Miss Rice")was my kindergarten teacher and I loved her! Growing up, I remember her on the bus to Gardners Lake for swimming lessons on occasion. Although I moved away, whenever I came "home" I looked forward to attending church and seeing Ethel and Marge. They are now together. When my Dad passed away, Marge made her famous "baked beans" and I actually got her "secret recipe"! Thoughts and prayers to the family of these very special women.
