Mary Cahill Obituary

Niantic - Mary Cahill, 101, of Black Point Beach, Niantic, passed away Dec. 1, 2024. She leaves her son Walter and wife Mary of Waterford; her grandson Christopher and wife Amy of Fairfield, her granddaughter Kristel and husband Sam; and great-granddaughter Hannah of Boston; and her nephew Anthony of Plainville; and niece Annette of Michigan. She also leaves her extended family, the members of Black Point Beach to whom she dedicated her heart and soul.

She served her beach for over 70 years in various capacities: as chairman, chairman of the Board of Governors, Black Point Beach Association manager for 35 years, zoning officer, and tax collector. She also served on the Water and Sewer Commission of East Lyme for 30 years. Upon her retirement, she was honored by Black Point, the Town of East Lyme and the State of Connecticut. They even named a street The Cahill Way. Always vocal when she believed she was right, she fought for the betterment of the beaches and the town.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Dec. 14, in St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Avenue, Niantic. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Black Point Cahill Educational Fund. P.O. Box 715, Niantic, CT. 06357. Condolences may be shared on Mary's memorial page at www.neilanfuneralhome.com.

Mary was such a grand lady of spirit, joy and her own special charm which she shared with us for so many years.

The words of a poet are appropriate:
There are stars up above,
So far away we only see their light
Long, long after the star itself is gone.
And so it is with people that we loved -
Their memories keep shining ever brightly
Through their time with us is done.

And so it is with Mary Cahill. She lived a luminous and consequential life as measured by the selfless enlargement of happiness and service she represented. Hers is a bright star that will long remain a bright and shining memory in the hearts of so many of us.
