Michael Bain Obituary

Old Lyme - Michael P. Bain, 51, passed away unexpectedly this past Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009.

He was the son of John O. Bain and Regina E. Bain.

Michael was a graduate of Glens Falls High School, class of 1976, and RPI, class of 1980.

From small repairs to his life-long commitment to rebuilding his 1966 Ford Mustang, no project was too much for him to handle. Michael was a handyman extraordinaire.

An amicable man, Michael's coworkers and neighbors quickly became friends and friends were soon family. He was an avid boater who loved being out on the water. Very simply, Michael loved, and he loved his family more than words could ever convey.

Michael is survived by his dear friend, companion, and life partner, Maria Nappi and her two kids, Ian and Chelsea Althouse; his mother, Regina Bain of Lake George; his brother, Daniel and his wife, Melissa; his two nephews, Jason and Eric; his niece, Lisa of Westfield, Mass.; his aunt, Lorraine of Winslow, Maine; and his 1966 Ford Mustang.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme, 2 Ferry Drive, Old Lyme.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Old Lyme Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 911, Old Lyme, CT 06371.

Dear Maria,

I don't know if you remember me, but I was the bookkeeper at Ferry Point and Mike was one of my most favorite people there. He would light up the whole office with his kindness and his sense of humor and I always looked forward to his visits.

I can't even begin to imagine what you must be going through as you face this tragic loss. I pray that you will know God's love, presence, and comfort, especially in the dark and lonely hours.

Never forget that God gives life, and He gives it abundantly. It is the devil who comes to steal, kill, and destroy. If you are angry (and you have every right to be), be angry in the right direction. God desires to hold you, comfort you, strengthen you, and love on you with all that He is. Just ask Him and He will meet you, right where you are.

My prayers are with you and all your family. Mike will be missed by many.

Those of us who worked with Mike on a professional basis knew him as a 'go to' kind of guy. His common sense and ability to solve problems were well known - as was his poise and good nature. We'll miss him terribly as a coworker and friend.

Our heartfelt condolences to Maria and the rest of Mike's family.

Mike was a true intellectual. His ability to stimulate conversation on a wide variety of subjects, whether as a proponent or devil's advocate, made him all the more interesting. We shared an interest in the night sky and the wonders of a meteor shower or Mercury rising in the early dawn. All who knew him benefited from the experience. He is dearly missed
