Nancy Swansen Obituary

Waterford - Nancy Keenan Swansen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away July 5, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born to William and Dora Keenan Oct. 22,1937, in New London.

Nancy graduated from New London High School in 1955. In 1956, she married Albert C. Swansen and became a proud member of an Air Force family for 20 years. She enjoyed the opportunities it brought to experience new places and cultures. Throughout her life, Nancy loved to travel and explored 15 different countries. After their military time, Nancy and Albert returned to the area. She became an active member of her community, co-chairing many class reunions and making lasting connections with her classmates. She worked many years as an assessor's aide for the Town of Waterford.

Nancy is survived by her three sons, William Swansen (Susan), Douglas Swansen, and Robert Swansen (Kristen); seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Karen Swansen; and her husband of 67 years, Albert C. Swansen. Nancy also leaves behind many lifelong friends.

Her family takes comfort in the memories they shared with her and will continue to cherish them for years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 11, in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be private. The Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home of Niantic is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Joseph School.

I am sorry sorry to hear of your Mom's passing, what a great lady! Nancy was always willing to help and always had a smile. Her enthusiasm was infectious. I always remember, as the parents planned the very first after graduation party, it was Nancy who came in almost daily to advertise on the PA! We often sat together at Mass and she would bring me up to date on what was going on in the family. She surely loved all of youu!

Bill, Doug and Bobby I am so sorry to hear this news. Your mom was my 2nd mom growing up in high school. She always watched over me and I will never forget her kindness. We would talk over the years and catch up on the neighborhood. She will always have a special place in my heart.

I worked with Nancy for many years in the Waterford Town Hall - and she never failed to lift our spirits, help with information, tell wonderful stories, and serve the public with grace and humor no matter the challenge. She was a Waterford treasure and will be missed!

BEST NEIGHBOR EVER!!
8 Deerfield
Deerfield Road will never be the same.
From the first time I did her hair color, to Halloween in the driveway year after year giving out candy! Oh and don´t forget the Royal Breakfast where we all got up at 4 am and I wore a wedding dress from goodwill. You made the paper front page of the day. And all the stories around your table over a shared glass of vino.
Nan my heart is heavy and you were way more than a neighbor to me and my family.
I love you!

I worked with Nancy at Medi Mart a long time ago. What a great person! Going to work back then was a lot of fun! We all used to get together outside of work - wonderful group! I haven´t been in touch, but often thought about her. Rest in peace Nancy.

I worked with Nancy in the assessors office for 10 years. She was a joy to work with and such a lovely lady in every sense of the word. She took me on some of her adventures outside of the office. So much fun to be with. We shared some laughs and made great memories. She and Al were one of those special couples who always made you feel they were happy to spend time with you. Goodbye my friend. Thanks for the memories.
