Nancy Waido Obituary

East Lyme - Nancy Waido, a lifelong resident of East Lyme, died June 21, 2025 from pancreatic cancer. Born March 3, 1949, Nancy was the daughter of Andrew Waido and Evelyn Auwood Waido. She was predeceased by her parents; and her older brother, Dr. Richard Waido of Woodstock. She is survived by many loving cousins and friends both locally and around the country.

Nancy attended local schools and graduated from St. Bernard High School, Class of 1968. Most of Nancy's professional life was spent working at SNET, from which she retired in 1995. The job brought her many friends and stories, but most importantly, it brought her Chandler Weeks Egelhoff.

Nan spent her self-described best years as Chan's life partner, and they were together for nearly 20 years until she lost him to cancer in 2003. She faithfully kept his memory alive until her death and was waiting to be reunited with him.

Nancy volunteered for more than 25 years as an EMT with the East Lyme Ambulance and as a member of the Flanders Fire Department Fire Police. She loved helping her community and this group gave back to her in so many ways. Many thanks to all of her friends from the phone company, from town, from the fire house and from the neighborhood that helped her throughout her life, especially in this last year of her cancer. She was so grateful to all of you.

Nancy specifically requested no formal funeral service, but all are welcome to join her family and friends as we gather at noon Sunday, Oct. 5, to inter her ashes. The Waido family plot is located in the East Lyme Cemetery on Boston Post Road, near the Flanders Fire House. She would have appreciated memorial donations to the Waterford East Lyme Animal Shelter in honor of all of the beloved pets she cherished and that shared her life over the years, especially her dogs, Number 8 and Liebchen. The shelter's mailing address is 41 Avery Lane, Waterford, CT 06385 with checks payable to the Town of East Lyme. Please contact Nan's cousin [email protected] with any questions.

I had the honor of working with Nancy - she was a dedicated member of East Lyme Ambulance and I always enjoyed it when I knew Nancy was driving. Thank you for your dedication and service, Nancy.
