Patrick Hemingway Obituary
Pat was born on April 22, 1942, in New Britain, the beloved son of George and Ann (McGuire) Hemingway. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He received his degree in accounting from Bentley College in Boston, Mass.
Pat spent most of his career in the insurance industry, mainly in the workers' compensation area. In his retirement years, he was self-employed as an insurance consultant.
Pat was a member and communicant of St. Agnes Church in Niantic. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Knights of Columbus. He was a volunteer for the New London food pantry and was instrumental in computerizing their system.
He was an active member of Black Hall Country Club in Old Lyme and was also a member of Cedar Ridge in East Lyme where he scored his first hole in one on the 18th hole.
His favorite times were spent with "his girls" and extended family. He enjoyed dinners with friends, movies, live theater, horseracing, and rides in his convertible. He looked forward to spending winters in Florida.
He married his high school sweetheart Dorothy (Pzynski) Hemingway on Aug. 31, 1963. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lori Carlson and her husband, Robert, of Berlin and Lynn Peck of Cromwell; and his cherished granddaughter, Sarah Carlson McPherson and her husband, Daniel, of East Hampton.
He was predeceased by his son, Michael; and his son-in-law, Michael Peck.
The family would like to thank those extra special people who assisted with his care.
The funeral procession will gather at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic, and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial scheduled at 11 a.m., at St. Agnes Church, 22 Haigh Ave., Niantic. Burial will be on a later date. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 30, at the funeral home.
