Peter Jones Obituary

Norwich - Peter W. Jones, 85, passed gently from our loving arms into the arms of our Lord Jan. 30, 2021, from pancreatic cancer.

Peter was born in Hartford to Horace Walker Jones and Mildred Phelps Jones Sept. 28, 1935. He grew up in West Hartford and attended Avon Old Farms School. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force. In 1958 he met Sally Juzwik and the two wed in 1962 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Norwich. Together they raised their children Bryan and Karen and cultivated a life of love, faith and pure devotion to each other, their family and dear friends.

Peter built his career in the retail appliance industry. After working many years for Modern Electric Company in New London, he went on to co-own Morgan and White Appliances with his business partner and friend Marvin Webber. Always known for his warm and genuine personality he enjoyed his successful career and especially the people he encountered. During his retirement he loved traveling to Vermont, outwitting squirrels on his array of birdfeeders and nourishing his insatiable sweet tooth at Dixie Donuts and Buttonwood Farms. However, it was his family and friends that filled his infinitely kind and generous heart.

Peter was predeceased by his parents; his eldest brother Curtis; and twin brother Timothy. His legacy of love will live on through his beloved wife Sally; son Bryan and his wife Sharon; grandchildren, Timothy and Lauren; daughter Karen; sister Sarah; brother Horace "Tuck" and his wife Gerry; and sister-in-law Vera; as well as his niece, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Peter's family extends their deepest gratitude for the endless support from so many during his illness and for the compassionate care from the nursing and Hospice staff on A2 at Backus Hospital and the Eastern Connecticut Hematology and Oncology.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at Saint Joseph's Church Norwich. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Donations in Peter's memory may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (nationalmssociety.org) or to St. Mary's Food Pantry at 34 North Main Street Jewett City, CT 06351.

I met Peter while working for my father- in- law Vincent DiGangi at Dandy Donuts, he was such a wonderful gentleman he came in daily, I would often fun into him at the store for many years and he and I would always talk. When I opened up Dixie Donuts Peter would also come in often, always with a smile and good conversation. Rest easy my friend, soar with the Eagles! The original Dixie lady.

I have a lot of great memories of my uncle Peter, but I think my favorite was the summer of '99 when my girlfriend, now wife, thought our apartment was too hot and demanded air conditioning.

My first stop was to Morgan and White to see my uncle. If anyone would help me find the right one, I knew he could. And he did. It was, in a way, like picking out wedding rings a couple of years later: an expert in his craft guiding us to the best choice with a laugh and a warm smile.

I called uncle Peter after 15 years to report it was still going strong - our marriage and our air conditioner. I was looking forward to calling him next summer to let him know that I'm putting it in our bedroom window for the 22nd time.

I think we're all going to miss you, Uncle Peter.
