I met Peter and Lila when I was a baby and I saw them up until my twenties they were close friends of my family Peter was very funny, artistic and smart. He was also very good at decorating and Administration. In addition he was a sailor and a husband to Lila . They are a beautiful couple full of good values, good looks and good advice. I remember them to this day and will never forget their class and generosity of spirit. All my love Vanessa ley smith

Peter was a kind, gentle, witty, intelligent and eloquent man. He and his wife taught me Spanish and shared beautiful stories and much laughter as we sat with my mother on the back porch overlooking the the Thames River or in their lovely Victorian Home filled with fine art, great literature and a beauriful grand piano. I remember their lush vegetable garden and the homemade apple cider they made with their apple press in their country kitchen. I remember the beautiful cards they would give us featuring original art work drawn by Peter of their former home in the Bahamas. I enjoyed hearing about their travels visiting their family in Spain and Uruguay. One of my greatest experiences with Peter was when he took me for a sail on his sailboat in the Long Island Sound. He was always kind to my family and friends and helped many people when they needed a hand. He made us laugh and feel good with his witty humor and fun conversations. I will truly miss Peter Schellens. Groton, Connecticut will not be the same with out him.

Peter was a kind neighbor and a very close friend to me and my family. I remember the beautiful cards that he made with his original drawings and the cider he and Lila made made with their apple press. He and Lila took the time to give me Spanish lessons and once he took me for a sail along the Long Island Sound on this sail boat. He was intelligent and pleasant to be around. He always had an interesting conversation to share. He had a way of making you laugh with his witty humor. Peter was well read, eloquent and knowledgeable. He and his beautiful wife, Lila, were always kind and welcoming. I enjoyed talking to them and hearing stories of their travels around the world. They once lived in the Bahamas and would spend part of the year in Uruguay and Spain when not living in Groton, Connecticut. I remember sitting on their back porch overlooking the Thames River or visiting in their lovely living room filled with fine arts, books and their beautiful grand piano. Peter was kind and gracious to all of the neighbors and would always lend a helping hand to those who needed one. He will be dearly missed.

I am so sorry to hear the passing of Mr. Schellens. I lived across the street from him and Lila when I was a little kid and I have the most wonderful memories of playing in their yard. My condolences to the family. I will be looking for the full obituary once published and hopefully there will be a service for him I can attend.
I would love to pay my respects to the family.

Thank you for the wonderful memories
