Orange, Fla. - Phyllis Elizabeth Anne Hamilton Wyckoff, formerly of Lebanon, passed away peacefully in Florida Oct. 3, 2025.
Born in New York City in 1936, Phyllis was the beloved adopted daughter of the late Joseph and Hazel Hamilton. She attended New York public schools and went on to earn her degree from Castleton Teachers College in Castleton, Vt.
In 1963, she married the late Charles Duane Wyckoff in Bristol. Together, they shared a life of dedication to family, community and education.
Phyllis devoted much of her career to teaching, working in elementary and junior high schools throughout Vermont, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. For many years, she also served as a substitute teacher at Lyman Memorial High School in Lebanon, where she directed the after-school Modern Dance program as a volunteer. She was the co-founder of the Lebanon Nursery School, which continues to operate today at the Lebanon Congregational Church.
Beyond education, Phyllis contributed greatly to her community. She served as the Town Bookkeeper for Lebanon, helping the town treasurer modernize its accounting and payroll systems. She was also a local correspondent for the Norwich Bulletin, Willimantic Chronicle, and Hartford Courant, covering news and stories from the Lebanon area. In addition, she owned and operated Wyckoff Associates, an accounting firm dedicated to serving small businesses.
Her spirit of service extended well beyond her professional life. Phyllis was treasurer of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Division, a literacy volunteer, and a longtime Girl Scout leader. Known for her generosity and creativity, she lovingly crocheted more than one hundred "granny square" blankets for homeless and abused children.
Phyllis had a lifelong love of theater - especially the Spirit of Broadway Theatre - as well as reading, travel, and attending outings with friends from the Rose Arts Senior Center. She was the author of a 1927 mail order romance based on letters of a Vermont teacher and a NYC accounting clerk who married.
She is survived by her son, Charles Hamilton Wyckoff, and his wife, Danguole, of Orlando, Fla.; and by her cherished grandchildren, Lija and Emaleth Wyckoff. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Christina Marie Wyckoff.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations in Phyllis's memory may be made to Bethsaida Community, Inc. in Norwich, or to a
charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, Norwich.
