Raymond H. Williams Sr.

Stonington - Raymond H. Williams Sr., 104, of Stonington, went to be with his Heavenly Father Wednesday May 24, 2023. Raymond was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Old Mystic, the second of four children to Laurence and Eleanor Williams.

Raised in Stonington, he attended local schools. He was blessed to live on the property in Stonington where he was born and where his family had settled in 1712. Mr. Williams married Clara Marie Watrous Aug. 8, 1940, and went on to raise four children. He lovingly cared for his ailing wife for many years and after her passing, married his second wife, Doris Watrous Williams.

Mr. Williams is survived by his son Raymond H. Williams Jr. and his wife Dorothy of East Lyme, along with their sons, Jeffrey Williams and Michael Williams; his daughter Beverly Beaucage of Bradenton, Fla., and her husband Roger (deceased), along with two children, Kelly Glazer and William Mitchell; son Wayne Williams of North Stonington, and his wife Prudence and their three sons, Bruce Williams, Glenn Williams and Troy Williams; daughter Mariann Piver of Elverson, Pa., and her husband David and their two children, Julie Montgomery and Kevin Piver (deceased); 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six stepchildren: Tom Watrous, Walter Watrous, Randy Watrous, Ernie Watrous, Suzanne Azevedo, and Violet Spear and their families.

He was a gifted mechanic, employed in the automotive business for most of his working life. During his tenure, he was awarded multiple times for his excellence as a Service Manager.

Known to be a devoted New York Yankee fan, he knew the statistics of each player.

Mr. Williams was an active member of the Groton Heights Baptist Church, and was proud to be their oldest living member. He was a devout Christian, an amazing husband, father and family leader. He enjoyed the farm on which he grew up, gardening, boating, hunting, fishing and carpentry.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street, Groton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Groton Heights Baptist Church, 72 Broad Street, Groton. The burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
