He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Burlington, Vt., the son of the late Oliver Maynard and Gladys (Bryant) DeLorge. Moving to the area at a young age, he graduated from Fitch Senior High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during in the Korean conflict and later re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Richard was a self-made man owning AAAuto Trim on Town Hill in New London. He was in partnership and operated local businesses, the former Poor Richard's Restaurant in Waterford and Taj Clothing Store in New London. He owned and operated the Ramx Construction Co., a building contractor for many years and doing projects in New York City, were he received awards for his work.
He married the former Kathleen Wainwright on Dec. 28, 2005, in New London; Mrs. Maynard survives him.
Richard was a free-spirited man and who traveled all across the U.S. on his motorcycle numerous times in his life.
Besides his beloved wife, he is survived by a niece, Lynn Mathewson; and two great-nephews, John Phillips and Clifton Barrows.
He was predeceased by his brother, Clifton Maynard.
His family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the
Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London, with a humanistic service at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 403 Frontage Road, Waterford CT 06385 or Hospice of SE CT, 227 Dunham St., Norwich CT 06360.

Dear Kitty, I heard about Richard the other day. So sorry....I am on my way to Ct, driving and was looking forward to seeing Richard when I got there. It is Sunday. Dick you will always be remembered for your free spirit, hard work and loyalty. I am grateful to you for giving me one of my first jobs at Poor Richards. As you know my father loved you and would do anything for you. We had some great times.
