Richard Mingo Obituary

East Lyme - On Thursday afternoon Nov. 3, 2022, Richard Adrian Mingo, 81, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home. Richard had lived almost his entire life in Eastern Connecticut. Born in New York, N.Y., in December of 1940, Richard and family moved to Willetts Avenue in New London. After marriage, Richard moved to East Lyme, where he resided for 59 years.

Richard is survived by his three children, James (Kathleen) of East Lyme, Peter (Patricia) of Ocean View, N.J., and Kristine of Niantic; and four grandchildren: Nicole, Jessica, Adrienne and Jack. Richard is additionally survived by his brother Robert (Robin) of Norwich; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; his father and mother, John A. Sr. and Flerida T. Mingo of Waterford; and by his brother John A. Mingo Jr. of Waterford.

Richard attended St. Joseph's School in New London, and graduated from New London High School in 1959. After a short enlistment in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, Richard attended Mitchell College in New London, and received an associate's degree.

Richard was married to the love of his life, Sharon, in 1963, taking residence in East Lyme, eventually spending nearly 40 years together on Lake Pattagansett. Richard would work in multiple industries throughout life including engineering, real estate, general contracting, automotive repair, and most recently, in automotive insurance estimating and appraisals. Richard was an ardent supporter of the Knights of Columbus where he served in numerous capacities.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, with a Celebration of Life service at 12:30 p.m. at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A reception will follow at 2 p.m. at the Flanders Fish Market in East Lyme. Family will have the Interment privately, at a later date.
