Richard Rocchetti Obituary

Waterford - Richard A. Rocchetti Sr., 86, of Waterford, entered eternal life Sept. 24, 2025. He was born May 9, 1939, in New London, the son of the late Ermenigildo and Carmen (Vescovi) Rocchetti.

His family was one of the earliest Italian immigrants from the Marche region, settling in the Fort Trumbell neighborhood. He attended local school in New London, graduating from New London High School playing in the band, playing woodwind instruments along with local bands in New London.

He later enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in the 434th Army Band, performing at military ceremonies for President Eisenhower.

He started his career as a journeyman carpenter with the Carpenter Union Local 24. With his God-given abilities, he was vigorous, energetic, efficient, organized, neat and fussy, everything you'd want in a carpenter. We can rest assured that wherever he worked in God's kingdom here on earth, he left it a better place. Despite our unwillingness to part with him, we are comforted knowing that he is in good company now, with another one of God's great carpenters.

He loved his family, and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by four children and spouses: Richard and Carmen Rocchetti Jr., of Florida, Robin and Greg Erwin of Florida, David and Linda Rocchetti of Rhode Island, and Karen and William Buck of Ansonia; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a dear friend Theresa Oatley. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Barbara (Oatley) Rocchetti; and brother Leo Rocchetti.

His family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Avenue, New London. A Funeral Home Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, followed by Interment in St. Mary Cemetery with military honors.

Dear Robin, Rick, and David, your dad was a great man. I remember him taking me and Robin for rides to Fort Shantok during the summer where we would sit in the back of his truck where the wheels outlined the truck bed. Boy did we think we were cool. Robin, do you remember? I still remember those summer nights to this day. May God bless him. RIP, Mr. Rocchetti.

I got to know Richard when I was caring for Barbara at Bayview Healthcare.
He was a kind and friendly man. It was always a pleasure to take a moment or two out of my work to stop and chat with him. I would see him around town and again loved stopping and chatting. He was always so attentive to Barbara.
A very kind human being. We need more Richard's in our world today.
Thoughts and prayers to you all
