Uncasville - It is with a heavy heart to announce that Robert E. Bob, son of George Banker and Beatrice Potter of Stonington, was born on Aug. 18, 1943, in Westerly, R.I. He was married for 57 years to the love of his life, Patricia Wallace Banker, who survives him.

After receiving his B.S. for teaching 1965, he began his teaching career in Preston, in 1966 and continued his love of teaching in Preston for 37 years retiring in 2003 from Preston Plains School. Bob received his master's degree as well from ECSU in 1975. There wasn't a kid he didn't love and continued to do so even after retirement. Teaching was his true passion. Governor Rowland even designated May 1, as Robert Banker Day for his excellence in teaching science at Preston Plains School.

Bob's passions were his family, his friends, teaching, camping, boating and he excelled at all (except boating).

Mr. Banker was my Science Teacher when I attended Preston Plains Middle School from 1999-2003. My grades were not the best during that time but Mr. Banker never really gave up on me and knew in a way I was a smart kid.

Thank you Mr. Banker for being my Science Teacher and my condolences to the family. We definitely lost a great teacher out there.

I had Bob (Mr Banker) when I was a young Preston student, then my daughter had him as well. He was a kind, nice man, we both liked him, as did my mom who also taught in Preston. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
