Robert Blass Obituary
Blass Jr.
New York, New York - Robert C. Blass, Jr., 31, a Robert C. native of Dutchess County, passed away on December 19, 2014 in Manhattan.
Robbie was born in Rhinebeck, New York on October 24, 1983. He is the son of Robert C. Blass and Karol Lester Blass, who reside in Poughkeepsie, New York.
He graduated from Stissing Mt. High School, Pine Plains, and received his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Cortland. He completed post-graduate medical training at the Medical University of South Carolina at Charleston. He was a licensed Cardiovascular Perfusionist, working at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, New York, New York, since 2010.
Robbie was an accomplished athlete who excelled in scholastic baseball and ice hockey. He was designated High School Pitcher of the Year by the Poughkeepsie Journal in 2002, the same year in which his Pine Plains baseball team won the Class C New York State Baseball Championship.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother Jonathan Blass, sister-in-law, Jillian Benchich Blass, and nephews Ryan and Liam Blass. Other survivors include grandmother Ethelyn Blass, grandmother Shirley Riley, grandfather Ronald Lester, uncle Ronald Blass, Jr., aunts Karen Lester, Lynn Hoch, and Kathy Hooper, all of Dutchess County, and uncles Edward J. Snyder, Jr., his wife Jan, and Kyle Snyder, his wife Joann all of Cary, North Carolina, along with cousins Andrew, Willie, and Julian Marchesano of San Francisco, CA., Laura Hoch of Washington, D.C., Lindsey Lowry, husband Breandan of Red Hook, NY., Ryan Hooper, wife Natalie of Oneonta, NY., and James Hoch, wife Marlena of Tampa, FL.
A public memorial service is planned at the Sweets Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park, N.Y. on Saturday, December 27th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pine Plains Bomber Boosters, P.O. Box 199, Pine Plains, N.Y., 12567.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Bright blue eyes that could light up a room the minute he stepped into it. A smile which matched, as he greeted you. A natural warmth, with just a tinge of shyness...that's how I will always remember Rob. He was our grandsons' favorite uncle, and he was a much beloved brother-in-law to our daughter Jillian. For Jonny, anyone could clearly see the love and adoration he had for Rob...little brother always looking up to big brother. And for you, Karol and Bob, your love for your son knew no limits, and that was ALWAYS obvious. Every time we have shared a happy occasion together, your hearts were bursting with pride for your two wonderful sons, and you spoke your love in both words and deeds.
Everyone who knew Rob will remember him and will smile at that memory. He was a bright light who will continue to shine from above.

I met Rob several years ago at Crush Fitness in lagrange. He was such a nice kid and my brother and I hit it off with him right away. Unlike most people, he actually cared about the people he interacted with and was a stand up guy. By the end of the summer he was 15 pounds heavier ( pure muscle). He is someone I will always remember and hope my boys grow up to be a class act like him.
