Robert Boivin Obituary

Niantic - Robert "Bob" Louis Boivin, 87, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Muriel "Min" Simone Boivin for 64 years.

Bob was born in Taunton, Mass., Sept. 21, 1936, to the late Joseph A. Boivin and Rosebelle Quinter Boivin. He was the youngest of three children, predeceased by his siblings, Raymond Boivin and Jeanne LaBelle.

Bob and Min married Aug. 29, 1959. Together, they raised two children, Paul and Mark. Bob and Min celebrated the marriage of Mark and Fern (née Amuan), and Paul and Wendy (née Pickett). He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, Brittany, Tory, Katie, Joey, Alex, and Jackie; and great-grandfather to Zuzu, Zoe, Eva, Claire, William, and Charlie.

Bob received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University in 1959 and his graduate degree from the University of Connecticut in 1964. In his career at the Naval Underwater Sound Laboratory as a systems engineer, Bob was awarded the coveted "Decibel Award" for his contributions to the advancement of surface ship sonar. He retired in 1991.

Throughout his life, Bob was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing at the Great Neck Country Club, and the Champion Turf Club at St. James. He shared his love of golf with his sons and grandsons, hosting an annual Fourth of July family golf tournament. Bob enjoyed traveling all over the world with his family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Bob and I are first cousins: his father (Joseph) and my mother (Rita) were brother and sister. He was a few years older than I. I have many good memories of him but especially of the time I visited him in his room, and he
talker to me about his motorized bicycle which he rode to high school every day. I thought that was so cool! During the summers we (my family and I) would visit his family at their summer home on the shore of Long Pond in Lakeville, MA.

Min and family we hope that you all know Bob was well liked and loved by the people he met. My father has been under the weather and we could not attend the wake but he asked me to reach out and send a message. May he be at peace and watch over us all!!

I first would like to say that my heart is heavy with knowing that I will not hear Uncle Bob's laughter again. I would like to tell the world about Bob, but that would be a bunch of words organized to describe him. I met the Boivin family long before I can remember. My father worked at the Sound lab with Bob and my Mother and Min became dear friends. I did not know Bob Boivin, I experienced Bob. Mim changed all of our diapers and the Boivin's were just family to us. Looking back through the lenses of life, I now know that Bob was gift. He was everything that I wish I could be. I never heard him raise his voice. I never heard him utter a cross word. He would always find the good in every one. If a man wanted to be a great husband and father, Uncle Bob was your role model. One could see family in everything he did. Bob and Min championed Mark & Paul in each and every stage of their lives. When you look at the boys and their families, along with their lives, you cannot miss the success of their great parenting. When I became a parent, Uncle Bob's example became the needle of my moral compass. Thank you Uncle Bob for being you.

Bob and Min have been our neighbors and friends since 1972, when we moved to Niantic. Our children grew up together.
In the recent years we looked out for each other,,
Bob passed on Good Friday and is with our Lord.
We will miss you Bob. May you Rest In Peace.

Bob was a gracious gentleman and a fierce golf competitor. He was the master of the short game. I shall miss his companionship. My deepest sympathies are extended to Min and the family. May his memory be eternal.

I have very fond memories of Uncle Bob (and Aunt Min as well) - he was such a kind and good-hearted man, always pleasant and affable, always good-natured and genuine. He and Aunt Min were my godparents and I was lucky to have them.

Paul and Mark and family - my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Please know your parents were/are very well thought of and loved. I think back to the days of us kids hanging out (well, me trying to tag along) and spending time with you and your parents and those were truly wonderful times. Chris and I just mentioned Sammie the dog not too long ago, what a kick it was to give him his mini colored Milk Bone dog biscuits. Your father was something special, and your mom as well.

Very fondly,
LouAnne
