My connection with Robert Cummings goes back to my Junior High School days. Even though I played the classical guitar and not a band instrument, Bob Cummings was a great inspiration to me and he supported me when and where he could. His trumpet performances with the “Four Professors” were always a musical delicacy for me: Robert Cummings was a brilliant trumpet player and musician!! When I left for Vienna Austria in 1965 to study classical guitar at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts, I did not see Bob Cummings that much anymore, but his influence will always be with me. His passing is great loss!

I learned my love for all forms of music from Mr. Cummings. By the time I got to the music department, he was music department chairman and only directed instrumental groups. I loved his passion for Jazz. My love affair with the genre has not waned since he turned me on to it.
I loved his willingness to talk with his students and just to be a friend to them.
I pray for comfort for his family. Please know that his legacy lives on.

Mr. Cuumings was my band director while I was in high school. I graduated in 1967 as second clarinet in the high school band. He was an amazing man and I was not aware of his history with the music world. He contributed a lot to the community of Keene and will sorely missed. Prayers to the entire family.

Mr.Cummings was one of those wonderful people who had a much greater impact on my life than I could have understood when I was his student at KHS. Because of his care and talent the "A" Choir and its members, including me, experienced tremendous musical opportunities that, for me, guided my steps toward directing choruses myself. Thank you, Mr. Cummings, for everything. To Bruce, Audrey and Steve, you have my heartfelt condolences.

I never played an instrument but was a majorette with the marching band, I loved it and Mr. Cummings, a kind, patient soul with all of us. He touched so many of us in many ways. He will live on in so many.

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Cummings' passing. He was indeed an iconic music figure at Keene High School during my years there. I will always remember him skillfully conducting the orchestras for the KHS Drama Club's productions of “Camelot” and “Man of La Mancha”—two outstanding musicals that Keene High School staged in the mid 1960's and early 1970's. I will likewise remember that when I was a child, Mr. Cummings exceptionally directed the senior choir at the United Church of Christ in Keene, where my parents were both members of the church and choir. My thoughts and prayers are with Bruce, Audrey, Steve, and all their families at this time. Please accept my sincere sympathy.
Respectfully,

Mr. Cummings gave me a place to belong when I didn't really fit in any where else. The Band Room was my home away from home. Music has continued to be an important part of my life.

Mr. Cummings instilled in me a love of music. So many times throughout my life I have thought how fortunate I was to have studied instrumental music with this committed teacher with such impressive credentials. He made a difference in my life, and I am forever indebted. What a remarkable man.

Bob was a gift to our four children even though he was in the twilight of his career. He turned all four into quality musicians and was loved like an uncle. Lon Bronson said what I can't express in his tribute to him when his show played the Colonial. He made such a difference to so many.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Bob & Barbara. I am Dave Nims, mentioned in the obit as one of the Four Professors. Bob, Gene, Gary, and I enjoyed many wonderful nights making music together. Wonderful musician, a good friend, a legend in the Keene High music department, my high school in an earlier time.

I am without adequate words at this time, but I do want all your family to know that my brother, Lon's, long career as a professional trumpet player is due largely to Bob's teachings and urgings. Once a guidancae counselor told Lon he could not go through life just 'toot, tooting' his horn..with our family's tremendous gratitude we wish to answer that "With Bob Cummings guidance Lon certainly is and always will be 'toot, tooting' his horn through life........!"

Your father and grandfather is a great man. His life was a statement that music is vital and that genuine passion throughout a 33+year career is possible; not just a dream. With respect to the thousands of students that Mr. Cummings has impacted, words cannot begin to express the profound gratitude, love and respect that I am certain we all feel when we think of him.

To the Cummings Family,
I was a music teacher after graduating from KSC in the Monadnock region for 25 years. I had the pleasure of knowing both of your parents through music for all of those years. I now live back in my hometown area (Niantic) and was quite suprised to see your Dads passing in The Day. I offer my sympathy to all of you. He was an icon in Keene for many musical events as well as NH state events and his music will live on through those he touched with it.
