Robert J. Von Ins

East Lyme - Robert J. Von Ins, of East Lyme, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 4, 2012.

He was born on April 3, 1981, in Tacoma, Wash., the son of Martin Von Ins of East Lyme and the late Cathy (Streur) Von Ins. Robert graduated from East Lyme High School and from Lincoln College Culinary School in Hartford, where he graduated in the top of his class. He loved the outdoors, and he loved to play guitar.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his grandmother, Maisie J. Warren of East Lyme; his siblings, James Lee Von Ins of Muskegon, Mich., Stephen W. Zych of New Jersey, and Jenny Lynn Von Ins of Saugatuck, Mich.; his aunt and uncle Linda and Jim Shields of East Lyme and his aunt and uncle Jenny Von Ins-Kommit and Dr. Jeffrey Kommit of Spring Lake, Mich.; his nephews, Bradlee and Brandon; his cousins, Caitlyn Turner of Asheville, N.C., Mandy Bonano and Krista Shields, both of Waterford; his best friend, Zach Barber and his wife, Whitney; his dogs, Bailey and Iris.

In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by his infant sister, Sonia Von Ins; and his dog Lily.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. May 12, at McCooks Park, Niantic.
