Roy Rock Obituary

East Killingly - It is with love and great sadness we announce the passing of Roy K. Rock Jr., 79, of East Killingly, May 22, 2024, in the comfort of his home surrounded by family. He was born in Providence, R.I., the son of the late Leroy and Marguerite (Conway) Rock.

Roy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Although rough and tough on the outside, his kindness, generosity and warm smile touched the hearts of everyone he encountered. Rocky worked proudly as a rigger for 42 years at Electric Boat in Groton. The family will miss the crazy inside stories of EB, especially of the riggers shack.

Roy loved to tinker around his house and enjoyed gardening. The garden fall harvests were certainly a family event back in the day, to prepare, blanch and freeze goodies to enjoy throughout the winter months. He enjoyed his mini-homestead on Bailey Hill, raising chickens, turkeys, pigs and cows. Roy was the glue of the family; he loved hosting birthdays and holidays with his devoted golden retriever, Daisy, always by his side.

Roy is survived by his daughters: Brenda (Peter) Button, Kimberly (Roger) Coutu, Cheryl (Douglas) Rosen and Jennifer (Robert) Senecal; son Leroy (Corrine) Rock III; and his longtime partner and love of his life, Lillian Wheeler. Papa will be missed by his 12 grandchildren: Kenny, Peter Jr., Aaron, Evan, Leroy IV, Roger Jr., Madison, Camden, Callan, Millie, Lillie and Carter; and two brand new great-grandsons, Theo and Leroy V! Roy is also survived by his sisters, Cheryl Cantillon of Niantic, and Deborah Desaulniers of Canterbury; and his brother Robert Rock of Coventry, R.I.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Roy's family from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, in the Tillinghast Funeral Home, 433 Main Street, Danielson. A Mass of Christian Burial with be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at St. James Church, Danielson. A graveside service will follow in Hopkins Mill Cemetery, 34 Danielson Pike, Foster, R.I.

The family would like to thank the amazing, caring, staff of Day Kimball Homecare for their wonderful services. Memorial donations may be made to the East Killingly Fire Department, for whom the family is grateful for their assistance during this hard time.

Roy and I worked together for many years and there was a bond along with mutual respect that was profound. I enjoyed the tales of Quincy shipyard and his 1955 chevy of his youth in Providence. My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace. One of the finest Electric Boat employed. Salute!
