Samual Barnes Obituary
Born in New London, he was the son of Norma (Lyon) Barnes of Groton and the late Chris Barnes. Sam was employed with the Residence Inn in Mystic for the past 15 years. Prior to that, he worked for Jamms Restaurant for many years. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching the NY Yankees, Patriots and the UCONN Womens Basketball team.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his fiancé of 27 years, Robin Richards of Stonington; two daughters, Ronda Church and her husband, Jeffrey, of Ledyard and Carrie Hudson and her husband, Robert, of Kittrell, N.C.; his siblings, Kim Lemke, Martin and Ronald Barnes, Donna Machinski and her husband, Ed, and JoAnn Dahl; five grandsons, Rene Nieves and Shanna, Alexy Nieves and his wife, Roberta, Cory Hudson, Robert Church and Dylan Hudson; and his three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Nehemiah and Isaac Nieves.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic. Immediately following the service, everyone is invited to the VFW Post 3263 in Mystic on Route 1 for a celebration of his life.
In keeping with Sam's passion and love for sports, please wear your favorite team apparel in his memory to the celebration after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Center for Hospice Care Southeastern Connecticut, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360.

Please accept my Deepest Condolences on the passing of such a wonderful friend, father, son, brother and grandfather! I've known Sammy since I was 7 or 8 years old, as he was one of my brother's (Paul Smith) best friend for years. I'm so very sorry for your loss and hope that loving memories will soon replace the grief.

I have nothing but the fondest of memories of Sammy when we were growing up in our wonderful large "Barnes" family. His smile, his energy and his outgoing spirit would always make me happy to see him. As most large families with everyone settling into their own lives as we grow older, we don't always see each other as often as we like, but whenever I would see Sam over the years he would always give me that big, warm bear hug and seeing his smile would flood me with the greatest childhood memories ever! To all of Sam's family and especially my Aunt Norma, I am so sorry for your loss.
