Samuel Jones Obituary
Sam was a 1981 graduate and proud athlete of New London High School. He was employed at the City of New London public works department until an injury forced him into early retirement.
Sam faced many health issues over the past two decades and had seemed to overcome them all. Through all his health issues, the one thing other than his kids and grandkids that kept him going was coaching the community. The passion he had to mentor, help, guide, and coach all the players will be deeply missed. He had passion in all he did, in all his players, in all his life. Sam was not perfect, never claimed to be. However, he always did feel as if he was the hottest catch in any room.
He was most famous for his big laugh that could fill any room. Sam may have come off as a tough guy, but really had a heart of gold, lifting up any room he entered. Sam still had that genuine personal connection with people which is rare in these social media days. Sam was a humble man who simply loved his family and community.
Sam is survived by his mother Arlene Lee Jones; daughter Sarah (Wesley) Cornish; son Samuel J. Jones III; daughter Tricia Jones; and nine grandchildren and one on the way. Sam was predeceased by sister Rhonda Jones; and father Samuel J. Jones Sr.
Sam would want the people he cared about to know he passed right after his team won, laughing, in no pain, surrounded by his friends, with a lip full of dip, and more than a dollar in his pocket. Sam will be forever missed and his legacy will live on through the Whaler community
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, with a Celebration of Life commencing at 6 p.m. at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington Street, New London. Please visit www.byles.com to sign the online register or to share a memory.

Dear Arlene, We will always remember Sam. I can still see the little blond haired little leaguer/ He was a pleasure to watch and always had a smile on his face. Now we say goodbye to his physical form and relate to his soul as he still lives on in God's mind and our hearts. Peace be with you.

So many memories, so many good times and long talks. Rest In Peace my old friend and Thank You for your friendship. I remember our long phone conversations from St Thomas Moore and your letters from college down south. I remember us holding court at McDonalds after the games, and swimming in our pool. I remember Laurel Drive and the reunions. Too many memories to count. Until I see you again God Bless ! Mrs Jones so very sorry for your loss! You are still the coolest Mom ever ! I tried out for Freshman baseball...never made the team... when I got up to bat he was always saying...hang in there.. swing away dont be scared... Like I said Never made the team..but went to every home game after my tryout....Awesome catcher...and always made me laugh....One of the Greatest persons I have met in my Journey through Life...Had the pleasure to play Pee-Wee Football with him...Thanks for teaching me and having me be part of your life.

I cant get my heart or my head wrapped around the fact that youre gone Sam. I cant look at pictures without getting sad and feeling like I got sucker punched. My brother is not here anymore. Mrs Jones, Arlene my heart once again breaks for you. You are one of the strongest women Ill ever know. My deep faith teaches me that Sam is in Heaven seeing the face of God and shining in His glory. There is no more pain, stress or worries. There is beauty, joy, unconditional love, theres Rhonda!! There are endless baseball, basketball and football games. Yannick is there definitely showing off his skills finally to Sam! There is peace. So while I am trying to adjust to you not being here, I know you are truly happy there Sam. Thank you for all of your friendship, laughter, great times, and always loving me. Til I hear that voice teasing me about something...til I see that face that I have seen so many emotions on...til i feel your arms hug me to say heyyy its good to see you, or everythings going to be alright...til all that...youre presence will be in my memories, my heart, my laughter.
