Sandra Barber Obituary

Stonington - Sandra "Sandy" S. Barber, 82, spouse of Howard "Lee" Barber, who predeceased her in 2020, died June 1, 2024, after a long battle with cancer and COPD.

Born in New London, she was the oldest daughter of Emile and Hazel (Hartley) Simon. They both predeceased her. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Stonington High School in the Class of 1959.

She and Lee married in 1960, and made their home first in Mystic, before settling in Stonington. She made a home there for their three girls. She decorated birthday cakes and enjoyed many crafts such as knitting and card making. She enjoyed playing bingo and playing the slots at Foxwoods. She loved going out to eat with her friends and enjoyed "Girls' Night" with her daughters. She especially loved spending time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She told us that leaving all of us behind made her the saddest of all.

She leaves behind her three daughters and their families, Lisa Henderson and her husband William, Lori Terry and her husband Robert, and Laci Dessaules and her husband Eric; two sisters, Patricia Moody and her husband, Fred and Roberta Newcomb. She will especially miss her grandchildren, Echo Berson and their spouse Joshua, Steven Terry and his wife Stephanie, Justin Terry, Jacob Sylvestre and his wife Madison, Ryan Sylvestre and his wife Lindsey, and Maya Dessaules; her great-grandchildren, Jaxson Sylvestre and Robert Terry; two nieces, Stacy Moody and her partner, Carl Johnson and Brenda LoPriore; and two nephews, Joseph LoPriore and his wife Darcy and Jarrett Newcomb; a great-nephew, Jacob Johnson; and her brother-in-law, Peter LoPriore. She was predeceased by her sister, Valerie LoPriore.

The Barber family would like to thank the wonderful care Sandy received from the staff at Smilow Cancer Center in Westerly, R.I.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to noon with brief words of remembrance at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A small reception will follow. Her burial will be held privately.

Girls have known you and your parents seems forever but of course it has only been since Uncle Don started working with your Dad at Pfizer. Still a long time. You had wonderful parents and lots of memories both good and bad Don´t we all. Always keep them both close to your heart. I know I will. I hope your MomCan keep those two guys under control I will try my hardest to get to the memorial for your Mom. Have to take it one day at a time and see what that day brings and take it from there. Sincere sympathy to all Sandie´s family and friends.
Although many years have passed since our school days I still remember her fondly as a sweet and kind lady and I´m sure she will be missed by many. It is with sadness I recall the same of the late Valerie.
Beautiful ladies Rest In Peace.
