Sean D'Angelo Obituary

Groton - Airman Recruit Sean A. D'Angelo, 20, died Monday, July 3, in Oakdale as a result of a drowning accident.

He is the son of Salvatore "Sal" and Roda R. (Almonia) D'Angelo of Groton.

Sean, known by his friends as Seanaci, grew up in Groton and was a graduate of Fitch High School's class of 2004 receiving Student of the Year and the State of Connecticut Leadership Award. He was a friendly and energetic young man who loved to meet new people whether it by the internet or in person, Sean had a love for everyone. He was both a role model and a leader for his brothers and his friends, keeping the group together and organizing their plans. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and his girlfriend Holly. Sean loved to play basketball; he played for the Navy Youth Center while growing up. He loved the Navy, music, playing guitar, skim boarding, drawing and his coffee.

Sean's passion and attention to detail within his drawings and his love for the water steered him into the United States Navy. Sean recently became an Airman Recruit stationed in Norfolk, Va., aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He dreamed of becoming an architecture, drawing aircraft for the Navy.

In addition to his parents, Sean is survived by his brothers, Salvatore, Justin and Jamie D'Angelo, of Groton; step-sister, Alecia D'Angelo, of New York; his girlfriend, Holly Gramlich; and very dear friend, Johnny Ryder; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 7, 2006, at the National Cremation Service, formerly the Gales Ferry Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 6 Hurlbutt Road from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2006, at Our Lady of the Lords Church in Gales Ferry, interment will follow in Starr Burying Grounds in Groton.

Dear D'Angelo family,

I wanted to express my sorrow from your loss of Sean. I "knew" Sean through Jamie, who I have had the pleasure of seeing daily at Claude Chester School for several years. Though I never got to personally meet Sean, Jamie often spoke of his brother with great love. May you be granted peace and know that you are ALL in our hearts at this difficult time.

Sean, whenever you were at Chelsea's house, there was always excitement. Chelsea probably talked to you more than me, and she sure is a good talker. We were introduced many, many times, 'cause Chel never seemed to remember that we had already met, hah. I love the fact that you always played monopoly with her so I didn't have to, I owe you big time. Thanks for always being on our side, when me and chel needed you to take down some girls for us, hah. I really miss you, even though I only knew you for a little while. You were a great guy.

Dearest Sean:

I think of as a son, I loved you and your brother Sal, you are great men and very respected by most that met you two men. Your son Sean will be sadly missed by both my daughter Nicole stanis, and I. Nicole went to school with Sean she was one year behind him, and she worked at Stop & Shop with him along with myself. I will always remember Seans nice smile and the way he loved to meet new people. Sean, I will miss you buddy and all of our Preyers with your family and friends, and others that new you for your short life. God Bless the D'Angelo family and friends.

Teachers may enrich the lives of their students, but more often it is the students who enrich the lives of their teachers. Sean was one such young man. He made our world a better place in a short time. May he Rest in Eternal Peace.

Sean,

What can I say about how I feel about you. You became part of our family when you started dating Holly. You fit in nicely. We all love you very much. It sadding me that you will no longer be here in body, but you will be here in spirit. I will miss all the talks in my kitchen, the coffees, your sassy smile that brightens thing up, your wonderful personality, but most of all I will miss you. I have only known you for a short time. But you are a very special man. Just wished you could have spent some more time here with us. And the plans Holly and you had came true. I will always remember you, and love you.
