Sharon Breton Obituary

Mystic - Sharon Jane Breton, 86, of Mystic, passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia Jan. 26, 2026, at Fairview Nursing Facility.

She was born in Greenville, Maine Oct. 25, 1939, the daughter of the late John Joseph and Pauline (Maheu) Fraser.

She attended schools in Rockwood, a one-room schoolhouse for grades one to eight, and in Greenville. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1958. Following her mother, she completed her studies at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Maine in 1961, earning her RN degree. She began her career at Mercy.

She married James C. Breton at Holy Family Catholic Church in Greenville June 23, 1962. They made their first home in Eliot, Maine, and while there, she worked in the maternity ward at Portsmouth, New Hampshire Hospital. They returned to Portland, while her husband completed his studies. She returned to Mercy were she worked part time while raising her family. They moved to Mystic in 1967.

After staying home for several years to raise her children, she returned to nursing. She was the evening supervisor at Mystic Manor and later at Nutmeg Pavilion in New London, where she ended a 21-year career in geriatrics.

Jim and Sharon enjoyed traveling and visited many places throughout the country and the Bahamas. They especially enjoyed Florida in the winter.

Sharon has been an active parishioner of St. Patrick Church and had been a member of the Daughters of Isabella for over 40 years.

Sharon is survived by her husband Jim of 63 years; her children Lynne (Michael) Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla., Laurie (David) Connors of Preston, Lisa Tolonen of Eugene, Ore., Stephen Breton of Melbourne, Fla., and Joanna Breton of Mystic; her grandchildren: Christopher (Rose) Anderson, Kirstyn Connors, Lindsey (Shawn) Madwators, Carson and Amelia Tolonen; and her great-grandchildren: David Connors, Gen and James Anderson and Carter, Alaina, Austin and Isabella Madwators; also her brother John (Sue) Fraser; sister-in-law Jane Plourde; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Alisha Connors; and her brother Scott Fraser.

Sharon's family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at Fairview for the care and compassion given to her during her final days.

The Breton family will receive family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the Mystic Funeral Home Rt. 1 Mystic. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at St. Patrick Church, 32 E. Main Street, Mystic. Her burial will be held privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Patrick Capital Campaign Fund, 32 East Main Street, Mystic, CT. 06355 or to a charity of one's choice.
