Sherry Howard Obituary
On Feb. 14, 1956, she was born in Willimantic, the daughter of the late Dr. Philip and Shirley Fichandler, formerly of Storrs.
In addition to her husband of 32 years, Michael Howard, Sherry is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Howard and her fiancé, Jim Hayes; her son, Bryan Howard and his girlfriend, Brittany Caruso; three brothers, Mark Fichandler and his wife, Patty, of Cromwell, Bruce Fichandler and his wife, Mary, of New Haven, and Joseph Fichandler and his wife, Ann, of West Hartford; two sisters, Sandy Later of Florida and Karen Kaplan and her husband, Steven, of Lebanon; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as an untold number of friends.
After graduating from the University of Connecticut, she began her working career at Wendy's where she met her husband. Through her hard work and drive, she progressed to an area supervisor before leaving to start her family. As time progressed and family responsibilities changed, she went back to work driving a school bus for the Town of Montville for 24 years, retiring as the transportation coordinator for the town.
She was very active in PTO and as a Girl Scout leader as her children grew up. Her number one love was her family. Whether it was camping and hiking with them or having big family dinners, this is where she was the happiest. Nothing was more important to her, and she said she got that trait from her mom. She also loved the outdoors, mostly her gardening. Her yard lost a little bit of grass every year as she would say, "Wouldn't a little garden look so nice right over here?" Her quick wit and disarming sense of humor will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of meeting her.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville. Internment at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich will immediately follow the service. All friends and family are then requested to return to the home of her very good friend, Kathy Santacroce on Old Colchester Road, to pay their respects to the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at hospice for their care and help over the last few months.
In lieu of flowers, Sherry has requested donations be made to Hospice Southeastern Connecticut or to the Friends of Harkness.

To Bryan, Kimberly and Michael, I am so sorry for your loss. I will never forget how Sherry drove the Montville Wrestling Team to EVERY match and supported Bryan and all the guys from her place in the stands. She was a wonderful, amazing lady. She will be greatly missed.
