Stanley Buchholtz Obituary

Palm Coast, Fla. - Stanley F. Buchholtz, formerly of Mystic, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016, in Palm Coast.

Born Sept. 25, 1929, in Brooklyn N.Y., he was stuck in Germany at the start of World War II as a child.

He leaves his wife, Helen Buchholtz of 3 Club House Drive, Suite 114, Palm Coast, Fla. and a 66 year marriage; his son, Mark Buchholtz and wife, Joy and family of three grandkids in Sacramento, Calif.; and daughter, Heidi Buchholtz and husband, David Carlson with two grandkids in Oakdale.

He was a Renaissance man, capable of building and doing anything he set his mind to. After leaving New Jersey (working at Curtis -Wright with airplanes) in 1961, he moved his family to Mystic to rig ships at Mystic Seaport, restoring old sailing ships, building ship models and sailing. He started the gymnastics program at the Mystic Community Center and wrote a book on Sport Acrobatics. He also started Mystic AcroSports, a spa and fitness center and owned several buildings in Mystic. In retirement, he joined E.A.A. and returned to his interest in building airplanes like his Pulsar and was building a 2/3 scale German Stuka while moving to Florida.

Living in Florida for 16 years he flew model planes, was a member of the Free Thinkers, the Elks, promoted Esperanto, started a Fla. German and Opera club and was always building models of ships, planes and looking into new interests.

My condolences to the entire family. I was saddened to hear of Stan passing away. I have fond memories of working with Stan at the Mystic Seaport and at the Mystic Community Center in the gymnastics program. He was a most intelligent and creative man. He built most of our gymnastic equipment from scratch---a balance beam, vaulting box, still rings, etc. He was generous with his time and skills and I will always remember him with fondness. Helen,
So sorry to read of your loss. I remember you and Stan so well and always enjoyed your company.
Though I have not seen you in a couple decades I have thought of you and all the fun we had years ago. I will always remember the German Festival we went to in Ct.
I lost touch with so many friends as I have been living in Europe for over 20 years now. I still think of the good memories of you two.
