Stanley Robert Gellar

1948 - 2021

New London - Stanley Robert "Stan" Gellar, 72, passed away in his sleep at home April 15, 2021. Stan was born Aug. 1, 1948, in Elizabeth, N.J. He is predeceased by his parents, Jerry and Sally Gellar. Stan was a graduate of Quinnipiac University in 1973. He taught and tutored math as much as his health allowed.

Stan was a 45-year resident of Connecticut, and the last 20 years resided in New London. His apartment house burned down ten years ago; and Stan despite his physical disabilities, helped residents out of the burning building. He was treated for inhaled smoke in the emergency room and became a hero to many. That was the kind of man he was - helping friends and neighbors in big and small ways.

Family and friends could always count on a card and phone call for their birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. He never forgot. His brothers, Sheldon Gellar of Tel Aviv, Israel and Harold Gellar of Bradenton, Fla., spoke with Stan at least once a week. They loved to talk sports which was a strong bond between the brothers.

Stan's greatest love was his family. He is survived by his brothers, Sheldon and wife Bakol Gellar, Harold and wife Marsha Gellar; nephews, Michael and Raphael Gellar, David and wife Catherine Gellar; nieces, Sophia and Daron Av Har, Sheri and Scott Morin. Stan has many great- nieces and nephews, geography kept many of them from knowing their wonderful great-uncle. He was involved in the lives of Olivia, Justin and his wife Destiny, Hannah and Luke Gellar, also Chelsea and Caitlin Morin. He FaceTimed Justin often to see his two great-greats, Rowan and Brooks Gellar.

Stan's legacy is that he was a sweet, kind and decent man. Everyone who knew him loved him, and he will be sorely missed.
