Stephen Sheedy Obituary

Mystic - Stephen C. Sheedy, of Mystic, passed away peacefully May 19, 2025, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. He was 71. Born July 27, 1953, in Yonkers, N.Y., to Stephen L. Sheedy and Catherine Sheedy McKenna, Steve entered the world on the last day of the Korean War - a meaningful coincidence, as his father was serving in the U.S. Air Force at the time.

Steve grew up in Rye and Ossining, N.Y. He attended Ossining High School and went on to study at Alfred University. A skilled and hardworking professional, Steve built a long and respected career as a construction superintendent and owner of his own construction company.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Michael Sheedy; and his brother-in-law Burt Kasson. Steve is survived by his devoted partner of many years, Sarah "Betsy" Rowe of Mystic; his son Michael Kalanta and daughter-in-law Kayla of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; his sister Susan Kasson of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; his brother David Sheedy and sister-in-law Lynn of Carmel, N.Y.; and his stepmother Sandra Sheedy of Caroga Lake, N.Y., and Myrtle Beach, S.C. He also leaves behind three nephews,; his aunt and uncle; many cousins; and his beloved dogs, Aurora and Dylan, who were always by his side.

Steve will be remembered for his strong work ethic, quick wit and deep love for family and animals. Funeral services will be private. The Dinoto Funeral Home is assisting the family.
