Mr. Slavtcheff was born on Dec. 24, 1926, in Providence, R.I., the son of Minko and Rosa (Kurevicheff) Slavtcheff.
He graduated from Providence College with a bachelor of science degree in 1957. He served in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy Reserves, and later in the Army Reserves, retiring in 1986 as a sergeant major. He was employed for many years as a physicist at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in New London until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Naval Submarine League in Groton, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and member of the Newport Ski Club. He loved his gardening, and in years past, skiing was one of his passions.
He is survived by his two sons, Mark Slavtcheff of North Kingstown, R.I., and Craig Slavtcheff now living in Japan; his two daughters, Tracy Correll of North Kingston, R.I., and Lara Slavtcheff of Tolland; nine grandchildren; and his brother, Peter Slavtcheff of Fla.
He is predeceased by his son, Keith Slavtcheff and his two sisters, Florence Pavlicek and Doris Bannon.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2005, at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme. Interment will be private.
Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, East Lyme, is handling the arrangements.
