He was born in Providence, R.I., on June 10, 1919.
He married Palma Samson in 1946.
Mr. Sainsbury served in World War II and then graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. He retired from Harris in 1981. He also enjoyed many hobbies and sports that he passed on to his children and grandchildren, including his love of the Boston Red Sox.
During Tom's years he was involved with the Pawcatuck Little League, on the Town of Stonington Board of Tax Review, St. Michael's Parish, Mystic Seaport and the Disabled American Veterans.
He will be sadly missed by his wife and their eleven children, Frances Bonardi, Mary Lou Battles, Laurel Fernandes, Barbara Santiago, Tom Sainsbury and Michelle Murphy, who live locally; Patricia Barber of Keene, N.H., Col. Michael Sainsbury of Fort Lee, Va., Phillip Sainsbury of Millersville, Md., Maureen Wirta of Groton, Mass., and Maj. Paul Sainsbury of Warner Robbins AFB, Ga. He is survived by his sister Margaret Brennan, 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gaffney Dolan Funeral Home in Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Michael Church, Liberty Street, Pawcatuck on Wednesday, September 12, at 11:30 a.m.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made to either the VNA of SECT, 403 North Frontage Road, Waterford, CT 06385 or St. Michaels Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck, CT 06379.
