Thomas Secchiaroli Obituary

Waterford - Thomas "Tommy" Bartholomew Secchiaroli Sr. died peacefully Dec. 22, 2022, at home with his wife of 52 years by his side. Mr. Secchiaroli was born March 15, 1932, to Guido and Marceline "Mary" (Cameron) Secchiaroli in New London.

He is survived by his wife, Diane (Starkey) Secchiaroli; four sons, Thomas (Susan) Secchiaroli Jr., Crescentino "Cres" (Tammy Venenga) Secchiaroli and Jonathan (Hazel) Secchiaroli all of Waterford, and Michael Secchiaroli of Manchester; two daughters, Pamela (Rich) Klukas of New Britain, and Corlyn "Corey" Webster of Waterford. He leaves behind a legacy of fifteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Secchiaroli attended both Chapman Technical and Bulkeley High Schools in New London, until he left to work alongside his grandfather, father and uncles at the family dairy and pig farm on Miner Lane in Waterford. He later earned his GED. Mr. Secchiaroli was the former president of A. Secchiaroli & Sons, Inc. of Waterford, a rubbish removal company and piggery, where he continued to work into his 80s.

Mr. Secchiaroli was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in New London. He was also a member of The Bulkeley Boys and a life member of the Elks Lodge 360 in New London, for over 60 years. Mr. Secchiaroli was active in organizations such as the Southwest Elementary School PTA and the Waterford Men's Softball League, where he earned the name "The Old Man" as he was the oldest player in the league. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's many sporting events, concerts, plays and performances, traveling with his wife and family, and hosting an annual family pig roast.

Mr. Secchiaroli will be remembered by his tough exterior, soft heart and quick-witted humor. Family meant everything to him; and he felt blessed to have his children so close.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at St. Joseph Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to The American Brain Foundation, 201 Chicago Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55415-1126.
