Timothy Brodeur Obituary

Old Saybrook - Timothy Francis Brodeur, 43, of Old Saybrook, died from a broken heart on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Theresa Anne (Sottile) Brodeur in October of 2005.

Born on Dec. 12, 1964, in New London, he was the son of Donald S. and Elizabeth "Nancy" Hartung Brodeur Sr. of Old Lyme. Tim was a graduate of St. Bernard High School and the University of Connecticut. He later earned his MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. As a CPA, Tim worked initially for KPMG, and then for Electric Boat. He was employed by Pfizer Inc. since 1994 where he worked in research and development finance for nine years. In 2003, he joined the portfolio decision analysis group as a senior manager.

Tim will be dearly missed by his loving family. Besides his parents, Tim is survived by his three beautiful children, Ashley Elizabeth, Melanie Rose, and Sean Christopher. He also leaves nine siblings and their spouses, Donald and Karen Brodeur Jr., Elizabeth Brodeur, Jonathan and Susan Brodeur, Christopher and Meg Brodeur, Rosemary Brodeur, Eric and Stacie Brodeur, Stephan Brodeur, Stephanie Brodeur, Marc and Jennifer Brodeur; his mother-in-law, Frances Sottile; his sisters and brothers-in-law, David and Rosemarie (Sottile) Moskow, Victor and Laura Sottile, Christopher and Coleen Sottile, Anthony Sottile Jr., and Doug and Michelle (Sottile) Hoyt; 26 adoring nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Tim was a truly rare person. He made a beautiful and lasting impression on those who were blessed enough to know him. He was a caring and sensitive individual with an unwavering commitment to help others. He was a parishioner at St. John's Church and an active volunteer in the community. His creative talents coupled with his intelligence and organizational skills resulted in many accomplishments. For the past two years Tim worked tirelessly, pouring his time, energy, and talents into the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation. This nonprofit organization, where 100 percent of the total gross fundraising dollars go to fund breast cancer research, has raised over $600,000 the past two years.

Tim had a remarkably quick wit and a passion for movies, sports, and everything family related. He will be forever remembered as a loving father, a dedicated son, a favorite brother, a special uncle, and a best friend to so many. We pray that Tim has found everlasting peace with God and is once again with his beloved Terri in heaven.

Calling hours will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at St. John's School Parish Center, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. John's School Parish Center. The burial will be private for the family.

Swan Funeral Home of Old Saybrook has charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, PO Box 785, New London CT 06320, www.terribrodeurbreastcancerfoundation.org or the Brodeur Children Education Trust Fund, PO Box 164, Old Saybrook CT 06475.

To the Brodeur Children:
I knew both your Mom and Dad when they lived in a tiny little condo in East Hartford. They were so in love and absolutely over the moon when Ashley came along. It was not long before they built your home and continued to build their family. I always looked forward to my Christmas photo of all of you, including this years. I know your dad is now at last back with his soul mate and together, they will always look out for you and keep you safe. Please know that you were wholly loved by your Mom and Dad and know that we will all miss them terribly. God has a plan and even though we do not understand it we must accept it and take solace in the fact that Tim and Terri are now together again...............God Bless!

I'm not sure why we go though difficult times in our lives. All I know that we must trust in God especially in difficult times. Please never lose your faith and trust in God for he will always watch over you all. Please know that there are many people who love you very much and who do care. I only knew your parents through St. John's church. We are a beautiful church family and we all do care. Please be strong and know that God has a very special plan for each one of you. He will always be with you. Please ask him and he will give you the peace, comfort and strength to get through this difficult time. May God be with you always. I was greatly saddened to learn of Tim and Theresa's untimely passings. I knew them years ago and remember their kind spirits vividly. I pray that their children and families may find healing and strength.

Two things stand out in all my memories of Tim, his kindness to others and his love of friends and family. Golf outings, drinks at the Pub, boating up the river – Tim was all about pulling others together. His kindness was legendary. When people spoke of Tim, they always spoke of his kindness and how nice he was. He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was a good man, an inspiration to others, and my friend. I will miss him terribly.

Those who know and understanding the depth of the Brodeur family's bond will also understand the depth of their pain. Yet, it will be their love they have for each other that will guide them through their grief. I am thankful that Tim and Terri's children will be provided with the love, comfort and care they desperately need. Don and Karen are extraordinary people. Chris and Meg, I am so very sorry.

Although we only met Tim once, in Oct, at our annual Disco Glitter Ball dance, it felt as though he been part of the gang forever. Especially, showing off his John Travolta white polyster suit that he so excitingly purchased on-line to join in the disco fever . That will be our last & only memory of him. We only ever heard loving , kind words about him through my dearest friend Deb Mals and her family. It brings us much sorrow to know he felt alone and for his children and family left behind. May God bless them and help them thru this tragedy . May Tim be in peace for eternity with Terri.
Sincerely , Andrea (LaGuardia) and Sean McGreevy, Huntington NY

beloved Terri at this time. My sympathy goes out to both families as these two lives are a great loss to the community. May God bless you in your hour of need.

To the Brodeur Family,

I am shocked and deeply saddened by Tim's passing. My fondest memories of growing up in Old Lyme was hanging out with Tim and the Brodeur family where we spent many days cutting lawns and playing every pick-up sport imaginable. A lasting memory of Tim (aka John Riggins of the Washington Redskins) was putting his head down and "going up the middle" in countless pick-up football games. He always accepted that challenge, and I am sure that is how he lived his life.

My deepest sympathy to Tim's family,

Dear Brodeur Family: why do the best die young? I remember Tim at St. Bernard, witty, smart, charismatic even then. He was always reaching out, always using his many gifts. He has and will inspire us to be better. Godspeed, Tim.

Dearest memebers of the Brodeur Family-

Our sincere sympathy on the loss of Tim. There is no human understanding of this tragedy and we pray for God's strength and mercy to help you through this challenging time. We hope, in some small way, your knowledge that we grieve with you will help you deal with his loss. We join you in praying for Tim's peace as well as yours as we strive to understand God's ways. Peace and love to each of you as we share your sorrow. Big hugs!

Ashley, Melanie, Sean and the entire Brodeur family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Tim was truly a remarkable person who made everyone he came in contact with feel special. I considered Tim a true sincere friend who I admired for his ability to care for so many people. I will always remember the many soccer games, card games and golf outings that we were at together where the Red Sox vs. Yankees discussion was always at the forefront. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help at this time.

To all of the Brodeurs:
I am so sorry for your loss. I have many happy childhood memories of visiting the Brodeur house with my friend Stephanie and seeing how your large family operated, with love and efficiency. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
