Timothy Medeiros Obituary

Pawcatuck - On Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, Timothy F. Medeiros, of Pawcatuck, affectionately known as Capt'n Tim or Ymmit, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully at the Yale New Haven Hospital. Tim was born in Stonington, Sept. 1, 1951, to the late Manny and Frances Medeiros.

His love for the sea began as a small boy working on his grandfather's lobster boat at the age of 12, which earned him his well-known title of Captain to F/V The Susan and Frances I & II, named after his beloved wife and mother. Throughout his life, he was enlisted in the U.S. Navy, worked for the Velvet Mill and Electric Boat, became a lifetime member of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, The Steamer Fire Engine Company, the Fisherman's Association and most recently, the Pawcatuck VFW Post 1265. His long days on the sea, eventually went on to serve the community through his Family Restaurant, Captain Tim's Galley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years Susan J. (Rackett) Medeiros; son Jeffrey Medeiros (Nicole Souza); three daughters, Erika Asermelly (Antonio), Shenna Simpson (Marc LaBrosse) and Miah Medeiros (Adam McShane); ten beautiful granddaughters; one soon-to-be-born grandson; as well as his furry grandson LouLou; sisters, Marjorie Middleton and Brenda Watson; and many additional family members and close devoted friends, too many to list, but each holding a special place within our hearts. He was predeceased by his brother William Medeiros; and a sister, Theresa Duque.

To his family, Tim was their world. He was hard working, loving, loyal, caring, selfless, a devoted husband, father, papa and believer of Jesus Christ. He would do anything for his family and friends, and it showed in his countless acts of service and his dedication to caring for our mother through her battle with dementia over the past three years. His last moments were spent with his four loving children by his side, while a beautiful sunset warmed his cheek for the last time.

On behalf of Tim's family, we would like to thank every person who dedicated their time, prayers and friendship to our dad, especially in these past few months. He loved you all very much.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at St. Michael Church, 60 Liberty Street, in Pawcatuck. His burial will follow the Mass at the Stonington Cemetery with military honors.

I graduated from high school in same class as Tim and always admired him. If you aren't from Stonington you may not realize how highly regarded a captain of a fishing boat is. I loved stopping by his mom's for a loaf of sweet bread and asking how Tim was doing and hearing the pride in her voice. He did something no captain had done before in opening a restaurant with the kind of good food fishermen are known for. My condolences to his family. Tim was a special guy.
