Timothy Salmon Obituary

Gales Ferry - Timothy Mark "Tim" Salmon, 76, of Gales Ferry, passed away at his home January 1, 2024. He was born Oct. 2, 1947, in Fullerton, Calif., to the late Paul Blair Salmon and Doris McKenzie Salmon.

He graduated from Covina High School and attended Mt. Sac College and enlisted in the U.S. Navy and on active-duty January 1967 in a career of 30 years - most notably COB on USS Boston (SSN 703) and COB on USS Springfield (SSN761).

Tim is survived by his wife Patricia; son Michael Blair; and grandchildren, Jaxon Blair and Georgia Salmon. He also leaves his brothers, Tom and Terry; and sisters, Julie Bretz and Sally Thomas; as well as brothers-in-law, Stephen Parnell and Paul Parnell; and sister-in-law Margaret Parnell; and many nieces and nephews.

Tim will always be remembered for his love of saltwater fishing and sharing fishing and boating adventures with many friends throughout his life. He especially loved fishing trips with his son to Block Island. He was known as the friendliest guy with a big heart and a welcoming smile. His grandchildren called him "Big Papi." He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the United States Navy Submarine Veterans Brotherhood Fund - US Submarine Veterans Charitable Foundation, Inc. (https://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MTc1MjU4.

Tim was a great friend from the Grayling days, an usher at my wedding and I regret never catching up with him afterwards. I didn't think of him as a career sailor, but am not surprised. Rest in peace dear friend.

My condolences to Tim's wife and family.

I had the honor of serving two tours with Tim, one on shore, one at sea. He taught me so much on how to be a better leader and a better person. I always enjoyed his perspective on life. He often flexed his "thinking outside the box" approach to a wide array of applications from field-days to awards, all of which helped me look at life's situations so much differently. Tim was such a positive person and that was reflected most everyone's enthusiastic feeling to be with him. He was an encouraging, understanding and compassionate man. I have a few stories, like many, of this great man. He was an inspiration to many. He will be greatly missed. God bless him.

Sending positive thoughts, energy and prayers to Patty, Michael and all members of the Salmon and Parnell families. While Tim will certainly be missed by his family and the vast network of friends whose lives he enriched, I am thankful that he is now at peace and free from the disease that entrapped him for far too long. The seas are full of nice guys but very few good men, Tim was a good man. I am both proud and fortunate to have been his friend for 50+ years and will treasure his friendship into eternity knowing that his life will bring light, smiles and laughter to all who remember him. I will talk about Tim and retell his tales so he will live forever among us. I wish you fair winds and a following sea on the next leg of you journey my friend and Brother. Save me a seat.

My condolences to Patty and the entrails on Tim´s passing. I had the honor of being Tim´s teammate on The Hartford Lords hockey team. You could not find a more giving and supportive teammate. As a person, he was the kindest man I´ve ever known.

RIP Tim, the world is a lesser place without you my friend.

Pat and family,
Somewhere in time (maybe on board USS BOSTON), Tim was the ST LCPO and I was the FT LCPO. In any case I'm sure I got these off of Facebook, but his memory and friendship/shipmate will last forever. Always a smile and always the professional sailor. I will miss you Master Chief! Jim
