Wally Bjorn and my older brother, Carr Jessup, were the two best male friends I've ever had. In both their spiritual and physical stamina as big strong guys and their capable efforts to help others, I am so thankful that I benefitted from their capabilities! Wally and I became roommates at Springfield College when we were sophomores after transferring from other schools. I am proud of Wally's and my brother's great teaching and coaching contributions which Springfield College cultivated. It is unfortunate that Wally's productive life was cut short by Parkinson's Disease. I have faith that Wally and Carr will always be with me spiritually and my wife, Judy, and I send our heartfelt condolences to Wally's wonderful family.

Dear Kristen, Thorr and Families,

Your Dad was a great man. He was honorable, compassionate and had a heart of gold. He was one of the easiest people to talk to that I've ever met in my lifetime. Over the years, we had alot of conversations whether especially at the house in Salem or the Cape. Wherever it was, he helped direct me on several of life's issues when I needed it. He didn't judge, and was truly a gentleman. Since my dad was already gone, he was "the" Grandfather to my children right up until he passed, and for all this I will always be eternally indebted to him. He touched so many people, and for that you can be extremely proud.

My Sincerest Condolences,

Chuck Persi

I had the pleasure of meeting Wally at Atria when he first moved in. Handsome, sweet, great attitude and sense of humor. I knew he and my Dad (Keith) would become fast friends. As I left one day I yelled at him as he was taking his morning constitutional "Hey Wally, take care of my Daddy!" to which he gave me a smile and big thumbs up. I will miss him. My condolences.-

My condolences to the Bjorn family. Wally was a mentor and role model for hundreds of students at ELHS since the late 1960's. He was the type of teacher and coach that you would remember for the rest of your life. I got to know him later in life when he was at Atria where he was very popular with all the staff and residents. He would always take the elderly residents for walks with him(Wally walks)which they enjoyed around the property. God bless you Wally, you made the world a better place.

Kristen & Thorr,
Your Father, Wally, was more than just a colleague through all the years teaching at ELHS. He was a gentleman who always looked at the positive, a motivator who could inspire those students and adullts he came in contact with, and an educator who loved counseling, teaching and coaching young people. Wally was a friend to me for many
years. I was so thrilled when Wally coached field hockey with me taking charge of the junior varsity team. The young ladies learned so much from him about the game and how participation and commitment inflluences one's life while having fun at the same time. I have many fond memories of your Father. May the memories of your Dad that you have in your hearts bring you comfort.
Sorry for your loss.

All my children had Wally in school. They all loved him. My oldest son helped him out with coaching after he graduated. He loved him. I myself played many rounds of golf with Wally and even in winter when we should have been somewhere warm. I and every one else will miss him.

A tribute from a small waterside community in Stonington Ct

Lord's Point Association members,
Our Wally died on Sunday. For many of the now aging Baby Boomers who had the good fortune of spending their youthful summers at LP, Wally was a major thread, who wove his magic throughout the fabric of your community. He was hired by LPA to provide instruction to the youngsters in all things athletic and to supervise Community House operations. He did that, but oh so much more.

oh, much much more. He was our mentor, guidance counselor, big brother, chauffeur, financial benefactor and friend. Wally was all of those and then some. He was for all of us, an indelible personality, influencing our lives sometimes in similar, but oftentimes very individual ways. Wally will always have an honored place in our hearts. He was a very special person and one of Lord's Point's finest.

Wally has been my friend and role model since I was a teenager. I was so impressed by his willingness to help the underdog or to stand up for what he thought was right no matter the odds against him. For over60 years when certain situations arise, I say to myself "what would Wally do" and act accordingly.

Thank you Wally - we all miss you.

My condolences to the Bjorn family. I was a student at East Lyme High School 81. Mr. Bjorn was my guidance counselor and he always kept me pointed in the right direction with kind words and at times with the hard
truth. I use to run after school and he saw me walking down the hall one day and asked me what I was doing. After couple of quick questions from him I was on my way. The next day he caught me going out and handed me a stop watch and told me to bring it to him when I was done. After the run I gave him back the stop watch and we had a quick discussion. He told me we are going to do this every day. This went on for 4 or 5 weeks until I got a job after school. His reason: He wanted to witness/see me get better. Good Guy.

I knew Wally during the several years I lived at Atria. We spent many hours together at the "men's" table and had many long discussions about many things. We were good sounding boards for each other. Wally introduced Thorr and some of his other family members when they visited. I only recently heard from one of the P.T.s that Wally had moved to Florida, but that was all that I knew of Wally since I left Atria just prior to the new construction. I was very sad to see his obit in The Day and I wish your family my sincerest sympathy. Wally was a great friend to have, and knowing him for a few years was a wonderful experience. He helped me get through some tough periods, and I hope that I was able to return his kindnesses.

I was so sorry to hear of Wally's passing. He was blessed with a loving supportive family and a brother, Doug who was always there for him. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Recently I asked my cousin Wally why he got after me when he first saw me with lipstick on and his answer "because I didn't want to see you grow up". Then when I started dating Chris, he said"it won't last" - it's lasted 58 years. Well, no one is perfect - but Wally was close to it.

Our hearts go out to his family.

Sad to hear of Mr. Bjorns passing today he left an impression on every student. It has been a long time since I was in school and had him as my PE teacher but he left an impression. Mr. Bjorn was someone you looked up to and one of the few that every student respected and enjoyed being around. Even after all of these years hearing of his passing made me sit and think about what a kind person he was to everyone. One of those teachers you hoped in the back of your mind was still walking the hallways because you knew the positive impact that he had on everyone he met. I dont often sign guestbooks but Mr.Bjorn was special and I wanted his family to know what a difference he made in all of our lives.
Rest in Peace Mr Bjorn
