Wayne Stuart Obituary

East Lyme - Wayne L. Stuart, 62, of East Lyme passed away Oct. 7, 2021, after a long illness. He was born in New London March 3, 1959, to the late William and Winifred (Sullivan) Stuart. He was a 1977 graduate of New London High School and worked for SNET until 1998.

At a young age, he exhibited a passion for music. He played saxophone and flute in high school, and later, became an accomplished guitarist playing in several area bands. Over the years, Wayne attended the concerts of every major rock group. One of the biggest joys of his life was seeing Pink Floyd play at the historic fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. His greatest musical love was for Pearl Jam whom he saw numerous times.

Wayne had a fierce intellect and an irreverent sense of humor. He completed the Sunday New York Times crossword in record time and always provided witty commentary on the current state of politics.

He married the love of his life, Brenda Greger Stuart, Nov. 26, 1999. He adored being a parent to Brenda's daughter Amy and grandfather (Papa Wayne) to her children, Amanda and Cole. Wayne also loved cats and is survived by his kitty Syd (named for Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd).

Wayne is survived by his wife and caretaker, Brenda Stuart; her daughter Amy Moreno and her children, Amanda and Cole; his sisters, Marcia Stuart, Jean Higgins, and Nancy Stuart; his nieces, Deborah Piper, Christine Towpasz, and Courtney Meyers; and his nephew Ian Stuart Meyers.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. Relatives and friends are invited to attend an hour prior to the service. There will be a reception immediately following for relatives, and friends at Filomena's Restaurant, 262 Boston Post Rd #1, Waterford, CT 06385.
