William Dickey Obituary

Norwich - After a valiant 19-year battle against cancer, William "Will" Wayne Dickey, 78, passed peacefully at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Sept. 15, 2024. A resident of Norwich, he was born on July 26, 1946, to Kenneth Dickey Sr. and Bernice Cluny Dickey in New London.

Will (a.k.a. "Billy") grew up in Niantic, and went to New London High School. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 90 here in Connecticut for over 50 years, and was very proud of helping to build seven nuclear power plants during his career as an electrician. A lifelong Red Sox fan, Will referred to it as "the agony and ecstasy" of following the Red Sox. He also enjoyed motorcycles and working on cars.

Will is survived by his wife of 52 years, Debra Elkins Dickey; his two sons, Douglas and Michael (Jia); and his granddaughters, Alexia and Addison Dickey; his sisters, Karen Dickey-Renshaw (Herbert) and Roxanne Dickey Castellano (Elbert). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his three brothers, Kenneth Jr., Russell and David; and his nephews, Kenneth Dickey III and John Hewitt.

At his request, there will be no services. If you wish to make a donation in his memory, make it to the American Cancer Society, or because he loved animals and always had pets, to an animal rescue group.

Dear Debbie,
I´m sorry to hear of Billy´s passing. I knew him, mainly, from living at Bernice´s house with my parents. We had some good times. I know you had a deep love for him and I pray that your memories of good times will help lessen the sorrow. You had a long life together and that is something to celebrate.
Love,
Carolyn Ryder

Billy was a great brother to my husband Russell especially during Russell´s greatest time of need. They´d laugh, they´d argue but these two(who looked SO much alike) had the utmost of respect and love for each other. Billy was also a great comfort to me when I needed it as well. Billy will always be missed. Love you Billy
