William Faulkner Obituary
Bill grew up in Niantic, and he attended Chapman Technical High School in New London, before joining the U.S. Navy to serve his country. He was later discharged with an honorable medical discharge. He then entered a carpentry training program. After serving his apprenticeship with local contractors and four years of training, Bill and his brother started Faulkner Brothers Company. Together, they built over 75 houses, including two developments in Niantic, and one in Waterford. After fifteen years, they decided to dissolve the company, with Bill moving to Fishers Island, where he met his wife Patricia Wall. Together they formed Faulkner Contracting and ran the business for forty years. They had two children, Brian and Lisa.
Bill was very active in the community. He held a membership with the local fire department for over fifty years. He was an EMT, held a Red Cross instructor's card, served fifteen years as vice president of the Fishers Island Health Association and two and a half terms with the Fishers Island school board. Bill took up flying and earned a private pilot's license and logged many flying hours. He had to retire from flying and other projects because of health issues, but it didn't stop him from playing with his beloved German shepherd, Katy.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur and Fred; and two sisters, Helen and Martha. He is survived by his son Brian and wife Carey of Groton; daughter Lisa Lusker of Frontenac, Kan.; two sons from a previous marriage, John and William Jr.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Please accept my condolences on the passing of your father. I have fond memories of him when I lived next door to him (Bill and Petey Haase´s daughter) on Fishers Island. What a long, busy life he had. The year my dad and your dad shared a "gentleman´s" lobster license always sticks out in my mind. We were forever having to go out and check the pots. And they were heavy to bring up by hand (remember I was just a scrawny kid)! I was so sick of people visiting and having lobster for dinner. I would pray for just a hotdog! Today, I pray for fresh lobster! Or the time when my dad rode the go-cart (I think it was yours, Brian) around your lawn, then got stuck trying to get off it! And, when your dad (Mr. Faulkner to me) called me in the middle of the night to see if I was okay. A bolt of lightning hit the transformer in front of our houses. I thought the house was on fire. He assured me that it wasn´t because he went outside and checked on both our houses (Bill and Petey were off island at the time). He was a super man and a great neighbor. He will be truly missed!
