William Hays Obituary

Westerly - William H. "Bill" Hays II, 73, passed away on Dec. 21, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcia (Madsen) Hays.

He was the son of William H. Hays and Margaret (Tefft) Hays, born Nov. 14, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He graduated from Stonington High School in 1958, attended the University of Connecticut, the apprenticeship program at Electric Boat for outside machinists, and Boston School of Photography.

He was the leader of Boy Scout Troop 71 at the Pawcatuck Seventh Day Baptist Church. He served on the Campmaster Corps at Camp Yawgoog and as District Camping Chair. Bill was the leader of an Outdoor Explorer Post. He was the first to receive both the Spurgeon Award for volunteers in Exploring and the Silver Beaver Award for volunteers in Boy Scouting. He was in scouting for over 50 years.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly, and the funeral will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brain Injury Association of Rhode Island, the American Diabetes Association, or to the Westerly Boy Scouts.

I went to SHS with Billy, and worked with him at EB. I still use a Logo on my checks, that Billy designed in 1970.
