William Kane Obituary

East Haddam - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William A. Kane III, Nov. 20, 2023. William was the son of William A. Kane Jr. and Theresa Homiski Kane who predeceased him. He grew up in Bozrah and attended Norwich Free Academy for high school. He then graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Accounting.

William was a practicing certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for 11 years. After which, he went on to become an entrepreneur with his wife Susan – opening their first gym, New London Sports Complex, in 1984. William was very motivated to provide a great life for his family and prided himself on improving the health of his community. He was gritty, driven, passionate. He was an outside-the-box thinker, a creator, an innovator. He was a renegade. Thus, it was fitting when he trademarked the name Renegade Fitness for his multiple health clubs throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. William's family is committed to upkeep the family business in his honor, with his wife Susan taking over as CEO.

In his free time, William was an athlete. He excelled in baseball, basketball, racquetball and softball from a young age. No matter the sport, he was the guy everyone wanted on their team. Anything he did, he did to the fullest. In his mid-thirties, he took up golf as a hobby and became pro within a year. William was also known as a coach and mentor to many. He became a certified hitting instructor – mentoring young athletes, major league baseball players, and everyone in between. Over the years, he helped hundreds of softball players, including his two daughters, obtain Division One scholarships.

If you were lucky enough to truly know William, you knew him for his kind heart. He was generous – always the one giving, never the one taking. He put his family before himself for the entirety of his life, and his "family" extended far beyond those related by blood. He was reliable, insightful, impactful. Yet, he never took himself too seriously, always painting smiles on the faces of those around him.

William is survived by his loving wife Susan; his son William A. Kane IV; two daughters, Theresa and Mallory; four grandchildren, Zachary, Ashley, William V, and David; two sisters, Kathleen Arpin and Beverly Braus; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

The Cremation Society of Connecticut is entrusted with arrangements. A mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Broadway, Norwich. After which, he will be honored at a ceremony at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic with a celebration of life to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Team Impact at the following link. https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-william-kane. The Kane family will match the total proceeds raised.

It´s very sad to hear of Bill´s passing. I always enjoyed playing racquetball with him. I knew it was going to be the most intense match and that made it a lot of fun. I know Bill accomplished a lot in life, but I always admired most his dedication to Susan, Billy , Theresa, and Mallory. He was all in for them! My very sincere condolences!

Without a doubt, one of the best athletes from the area. I had the opportunity to umpire many of his slo-pitch softball games over the years. One of the most gifted shortstops I have seen over 50 years in my career.
My sincerest condolences to Bill's Family. May he rest in Peace.
