William Logozzo Obituary

Niantic - William Arthur "Bill" Logozzo, husband of Shari Lucas, of Wells Street, Niantic, peacefully passed away at home, March 10, 2024. Born April 30, 1938, in Meriden, to parents Arthur and Elia Logozzo, he was president and owner of Nutmeg Chrome Corporation, a world-renowned and award-winning nickel and chrome electroplating company founded by his father in West Hartford.

During his tenure as president, the company received the Aetna Insurance Award and Bill was awarded an Official Citation from the CT General Assembly for his outstanding service to the community. Bill was a graduate of the University of Vermont, 1960, chemistry major, and served as staff sergeant in the U.S. Army.

Growing up in West Hartford, Bill discovered his lifelong love of sports and competition. He played for the West Hartford Little League All-Star team and won a state championship with the CT Alumni League. At Hall High School, he excelled as a football player and became a multi-year state handball champion with the YMCA. He coached numerous years for the Town Champion Nutmeg Chrome Little League team. Continuing his passion for sports and speed, Bill formed the Nutmegger (Boat and Car) Racing Team and was the primary driver winning multiple awards. He was the National SK-Flatbottom Champion in 1976 and 1977, as well as the World Champion for Endurance Racing in 1984. His team broke over ten world speed records in the Grand National class, American Power Boat Association. Bill was also proud to support the Special Olympics through his East Hartford Marine Classic event.

Bill's second love was music which introduced him to his beloved wife, Shari. Together, they assembled the Heartbeat Jazz Band and played at various New England venues along with hosting their yearly Jazzin' with the Stars charity event that featured celebrity musicians, including Ronnie Spector and Marshall Lytle, a founding member of Bill Haley's Comets. When Bill wasn't attending to his business, sports and band, he could be found driving his classic cars and fishing in Long Island Sound.

In addition to his wife Shari of 19 years, he leaves three children, Kevin W. Logozzo of Wethersfield, Jeanne C. Logozzo of Stamford, and Terry A. Logozzo of Lyman, N.H. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Gabrielle N. Logozzo and Caroline N. Logozzo; and 17 nieces and nephews. He is survived by his siblings: Jan Logozzo of Niantic, Karen Rancourt (Gary) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Ellen Franks (John) of West Hartford and Richard Logozzo of Hartford; and cherished family friend Mary O'Connor of Old Saybrook.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at Niantic Baptist Church, 443 Main Street, Niantic. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Church, 190 Court St., Middletown CT, 06457, to support their music program.
