William Walsh Obituary

Groton - William "Bill" Hudson Walsh, 79, passed away July 23, 2025. Born to Robert E. and Martha L. (Hudson) Walsh, in Madison, Bill spent his early childhood there before moving with his family to Groton in 1957.

He attended schools in both Madison and Groton, and graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in 1963. Bill went on to study forestry at the University of Connecticut where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, graduating with a degree in 1967.

Following college, Bill proudly served his country. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was accepted into Officer Candidate School, where he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army Engineer Corps. His service took him to Okinawa and Vietnam, where he was promoted to captain and serviced primarily with the 108th Transportation Company in Danang from 1970 to 1971. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Overseas bars, and the Bronze Star Medal.

Bill was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as a lifetime member of the Groton Lodge of Elks and the Groton Sportsmen Club.

Over the years, Bill worked for Chesebrough-Ponds in Clinton, and Houston, Texas, during the 1970s and 1980s. He later owned and operated a construction business specializing in custom home remodeling in southeastern Connecticut. In the later years of his career, he worked as a professional limousine driver for several local companies and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe Casino.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Martha. He is survived by his brother Robert Walsh; his former wife Sharon (Knox) Walsh; his children, Christopher Walsh (Kristin), Alison Savage (Jamie) and Kevin Walsh; and his grandchildren: Brendan Walsh, Elizabeth Walsh, Mikayla Savage and Makenzie Savage.

He will be laid to rest at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Mass. Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street, Groton assisted with the arrangements. Please visit www.byles.com to sign the guestbook.
