Alberta Luna Obituary

Alberta Cardenas Luna was born in Mateguala, Mexico on April 23, 1914 to Miguel and Alvina Cardenas. Berta as she was known, passed away on April 23, 2013 on her 99th birthday, surrounded by her family and friends. Berta came to the United States during the roaring 20's and married Francisco Luna. They settled in the state of Texas, where most of their family was born. Due to hurricanes and flood waters they traveled the Southern states and settled in Florida. After sometime in Florida the family traveled and settled in Michigan, but because of the extreme cold weather they relocated to Arkansas, where other siblings were born. The family then traveled to San Jose, Calif. and then settled in Indio, Calif. where the last siblings were born. Alberta had 13 siblings. She was a housewife and a member of the Guadalupanas at OLPH church. She was a member of the Valley Missionary Program, and a member of Our Lady of Soledad Church in Coachella. She is survived by her oldest daughter Pauline De La Fuente (Jose Angel), Tomas Luna (Marylou), Irene Loredo (Armando), Oralia Ortiz, Roy Luna (Virgie), Zoila Becerra (Jose), Frankie Luna (Stella), Ofelia Martinez (Nacho), Freddie Luna (Valerie). Alberta Luna is preceded in death by her husband Fransicso Luna and her sons Ysidro and Erasmo Luna, and her daughters Berta Luna and Lydia Martinez. Alberta Luna had 53 grandchildren, 151 great grandchildren, and many great, great grandchildren. Alberta was well known in her church and in her community, known as Coachellita 53. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Viewing was on Monday, April 20, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Our Lady of Soldedad Church. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 following the 8:00 AM mass at Our Lady of Soledad Church with burial following at Coachella Valley Cemetary. Like Gramma would say, "Go Dallas Cowboys!"
