Aldine Tarter Obituary

Aldine Tarter, a Coachella Valley resident since 1930, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Loving Care Assisted Living in Palm Springs, Calif. She was born November 27, 1923, in Liberty, Alabama, the youngest daughter of the late Charles and Ophelia Tune. On November 18, 1942 she married L.E. (Jack) Tarter who passed away in 1995. In 1950, Aldine began a long business career at the Cochran-Odlum Ranch in Indio, Calif. She started as a PBX operator and moved up the ladder through the years to become General Manager. During that time many dignitaries, celebrities, and public figures sat across from her desk discussing politics, world problems, or just chit-chatting about life in Hollywood. When the Cochran-Odlum Ranch was sold, it became what is now Indian Palms Country Club. Aldine continued there for a few years before moving on to Palm Desert Country Club as their new CFO. After a few years, Aldine became General Manager, the first woman to hold that position at a golf course and country club here in the Coachella Valley. She retired from PDCC in 1982 and became a consultant to other companies in financial crisis and spent time with her family. Aldine is survived by her daughter Joleene Wouk of Palm Springs, Calif; grandchildren, Juliana Weed of Indio, Calif. and Jason Weed of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; great-grandchildren Zoe and Mya Hammons of Indio, Calif.; sister, Lucille Cavanaugh and nephew Rod Cavanaugh, both of Indio, Calif. A Celebration Of Life will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2012, 7pm, at the Palm Springs Air Museum, 745 N. Gene Autry Trail, Palm Springs, CA 92262. Prior to the service, there will be a reception at 6 pm. For those of you who cannot come to this memorial service, you can write or email her daughter a letter and she will read it during the service. Send all correspondence to: Joleene Wouk, 3633 Western Sky Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262. [email protected]. Everyday I hear your voice and sometimes it feels like you are still here. Actually, I know you are with me all the time. Your Spirit guides my way so often and I will be with you when I leave this planet. Send me another dragonfly to say hello. I will always love you.

Today was very sad... I needed you to light the way for me. It will be a miracle if I am half the woman that you were. I miss you and love you so very much.

A baby red-tailed hawk arrived at Golda's House Animal Rescue today. Laurie Deane named her Aldeanie, after my mom. Some of you know that my mom's Spirit has been visiting people in the form of a red-tailed hawk. So this is no surprise since Laurie sees a particular, adult red-tailed hawk quite frequently on the ranch...the same one that visited her within minutes after my mom passed away.

My mother was an incredible person while she was living with us; a pioneer for women in business here in the Coachella Valley, and a friend to everyone she met. To those who are missing her, if you see a hawk flying around you, she is saying hello. And if you close your eyes and think of her, she will be right next to you. She is only a thought away. There is great love for all of you from Aldine, my amazing mother. I love you, Mom.

Rising from such humble beginnings, Auntie Dean was proof that anything is possible with hard work, a positive attitude and sheer determination. She made everyone who came into contact with her feel better about themselves and her loving words of wisdom and guidance will be sorely missed. Our hearts go out to her devoted daughter Joleene, beautiful Juliana and her beloved grandson Jason.
