Alvin Meyrowitz Obituary

Alvin A. Meyrowitz

Alvin A. Meyrowitz was born on Dec. 16, 1917 and passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 4, 2012 at home in Palm Desert, CA. He was a loving and adored husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Al was born and raised in New York City. He received his B.A. from Cornell University and his MBA from NYU. He worked for the Dept. of Commerce as Director of the Copper Division of the Office of Civil Supplies during WWII. He created the zinc penny so that the copper could be used for the war effort. In 1951, he moved his family to Los Angeles when he joined H. Kramer and Co., a producer of secondary copper alloys. He retired from H. Kramer in 1986 but remained active with his own metals trading company. He will be remembered for his amazingly quick mind, his warmth, strength of character and generosity which endeared him to his family and friends. He adored his family who will miss him deeply and are grateful for the wonderful memories. He is survived by Ruth, his wife of 70 years; his daughter Linda (Martin) Blank; grandchildren Julie (Scott) Gerien, Michael (Sanda) Blank and four amazing grandchildren: Owen, Georgina, Kieran and Cameron. His son Jack Myers predeceased him. Funeral services will be held on April 8 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Los Angeles, CA. Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks & Mortuaries to direct.
